I can not believe that I'm gaining weight! I quit smoking in February, right in the middle of my wedding planning! Since then, I have gained weight and had to purchase a 2nd wedding gown because I outgrew the 1st one! Talk about drama & tears!!!  I was told not to stop smoking until after the wedding, but I didn't listen. I have maintained healthy eating habits, attend WW meetings, and now trying herbalife. I use MFP to track food and endomondo to track activity. I am ready to come to terms with being a FAT bride. It doesn't help that my guy loves a big a$$ so he's been smiling at my every complaint. I refuse to buy another gown so I need to figure out what the hell!! So far, the herbalife has been working, but I can't live on shakes for the long run, so it's not realistic, but for now, it's my current program.

Have you been successful with maintaining wedding weight?

Hey!

I have lost a lot of weight and have been able to maintain it within 10 lbs (I always gain each summer when I drink too much beer!!!)

I use MFP.    I have never smoked but I hear a lot of people gain weight when they stop - I was under the impression they replace the smokes with food (they told me this!), but not so in your case so I find it quite odd you keep gaining.

If you don't mind me asking, how many calories a day do you eat? how much calories do you burn exercising per day? week?

and if you don't mind sharing, how much do you weigh?

I just want to get an idea mentally!  Because less calories in means you should lose weight, unless you exercise too much for what you are taking in. Or maybe if you are eating WAY too little (but WW is a good program and I am sure you are on target!)

HMMMMM  I feel your pain, it's frustrating. I gained this summer (12 lbs) and I have been busting my arse to get it off because I didn't want my wedding dress taken out!

I hope you aren't offended by my questions. I live this struggle daily, and have for 3 years so I really do want to be able to help you if I can!

Hey Kim, I am not easily offended. I totally appreciate your queries. Currently I weigh 198.6# (per WW) I eat about 1000 - 1250 calories a day (always hungry) and burn about 600 with each workout 4x a week so 2400 per week. What do you think of these numbers? Too much? Too little? When I stopped smoking I weighed 182# in February. About WW, I go to the meetings but don't follow the food plan closely since I've been doing Herbalife.

I did ask a physician I work with about the weight gain and she said, she cannot say medically why smoking cessation causes weight gain, or if there is a correlation, but studies have shown that people who embrace the weight gain are more successful at being an former smoker, versus people who give in and go back to smoking. The latter is not an option for me.

I saw your photos on one of these threads and you are a cutie pie and your weight loss is awesome! I appreciate your input!

Hey!

Honestly I don't feel you are eating enough!!! Especially with those calorie burns your body is probably hanging on to everything! That would explain a stall but probably a gain too. I think for women they say no less than 1200 before a calorie burn.

Especially if you are hungry I'd eat more. I weight 160 and I eat 1350 a day Sunday to Thursday. Friday I eat around 1600 and Saturday I don't track and eat whatever I want. My exercise is inconsistent as of late but maybe 1000 cals burned on a good week. I use that to offset my cheat day.

So honestly I'd increase your calories. If you are good at not cheating then try upping by 200 a week. So maybe eat 1300 this week and see. Then try 1400 etc. You could probably easily eat 1500 safely to lose if not more.

Maybe take what you eat everyday with Herbalife and put it into WW and compare. I have put my MFP calories into WW before and they match closely.

Hope that helps!!!!

If I could have a do over id eat more from the get go. I did the 1200 thing and it was hard to come back up (more mentally, not scale related) but long term I couldn't be starving and miserable all the time.

Good advice. I'm totally good at cheating! I'm going to look at my meal plans and add more than fruits and veggies! I remember reading that if you starve your body it store the fat so survival. Between that and the exercise, and the no smoking, I probably sent my body into shock!! I'm feeling much better after this exchange.  Thank you so much!!

If it makes you feel any better my fiance and I have BOTH gained weight since we got engaged - and our problem is definitely not UNDER eating and neither of us have ever smoked :) We both exercise rigorously 3-4 times per week, but we loooooove food. We gotta get it together!! Haha.

Haha I drink to much beer. I can gain really easily also. This is my life long battle. I have to be diligent 365 days a year. I still wish I could eat more and maybe after the wedding I'll play around with my numbers.

Glad it helped some! Get lots of protein too! I find it fils me better but I prefer carbs :)

I really think it's shock and can't hurt to try to eat more!

I also find on days I lift weights (or the day after) my body needs more so I up my calories some. Muscles need fuel to repair!!

Have you tried doing HIIT workouts? I have been doing boot camp twice a week since May, most recently bumping up to three times a week as of late and I have been shredding the pounds that I gained on my self proclaimed "fat parade" last year(Decided to eat whatever I wanted for 6 months with no exercise - that turned out great) My boot camp is an hour of HIIT workouts and honestly, has helped me slim down. Also eating extremely clean and having self dedicated cheat meal has helped as well - rather than treating myself everyday, having one meal a week where I can eat what I am craving but then being super strict. Also, drinking tons of water really helps as well.. I think if you include all of these three, they may help you blast past your plateau. and You still have tons of time! You can make a change in 10 weeks for sure. :)

I find water really helps. My weakness are sweets and carbs but water and protein really help you feel full without overeating. Definitely make sure to eat enough. Not enough calories are just as bad as too many.

I also love HIIT workouts because they combine cardio and weight training all in one. They're very intense and can seem a bit intimidating at first but make sure you try your best and do modifications whenever needed. I like bodyrock.tv they have free workouts. Zgym also has great workouts but it's $10 a month so you can start with the free ones and then think about paying if you like it.

Definitely sounds like you're not consuming enough for what you're burning. Up your calorie intake and modify the intensity and activity that you do and you should see changes. But don't focus on the scale numbers focus on inches. Could be that you're gaining muscle. Good luck!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
