Symbolic Personal Touches

Recommended Posts

Hi Girls,

I was wondering what symbolic personal touches people are incorporating into their ceremonies and/or reception?  Somewhere else on here someone mentioned she will be giving her bouquet to her grandma in leu of a bouquet toss.  I have heard of people placing framed wedding pics of family members in the reception area. Stuff like that!  What are you doing?

I have a picture frame charm for my bouquet that has a picture of my late mother. We will have some pics of us at the reception, but otherwise that is it :)

I'm looking for ideas too. We aren't having a bridal party, but we still kind of want to acknowledge people. I was thinking maybe a slide show that was more focused on our relationships with our guests than on the two of us and showing it the night before the wedding.

On another thread someone suggesting leaving an empty chair with a candle or flower on it in memory of lost loved ones. I lost my mom this year and my fiance lost his grandma (who raised him) so I like this idea - maybe one on each side for each of them.

I also really wanted to have a photo from my mom & dad's wedding at my reception, as my mom passed away 10 years ago. but... my dad is remarried, as are my fiance's parents and it's like hmmm... do you post a pictures from each of their weddings? hehe, just wasn't sure if that was awkward so we won't do it at all.

yeah @@calgarybride2015, I wanted to set up wedding pics from our parents and grandparents, but his divorced, so I dont know haha. I think Ill ask his mom what she thinks. My special touches are a memory charm on my bouquet of my grandparents, and a memory chair for them. I am going to wear my grandmas earrings. I think a slideshow would be cool, I may just play it running on a computer during our welcome party in our suite. At the tables, I plan to have some black and white photos of us - with each table featuring a certain place we have traveled together. Since my FI and are are big readers, I plan to do a few readings from classic books or poetry.

I have the same conflict - having lost my mom recently I'd love to have a wedding photo of her on display, but my dad is remarried. I like my stepmom and all, but I'd like to think she would understand. Maybe I'll see if a family member has a photo of her from their wedding that my dad isn't in - I think that would be less offensive to her.

Also, sorry you lost your mom :( Planning a wedding knowing she won't be there is hard...

My mother hasn't passed but I planned on doing this as well. I plan on using wedding pictures of both of our parents and grandparents.

My future mother in law is going to give her son (my groom) one of his grandpa's army medals to wear on the inside of his vest, my fiance joined the army and he was so proud that he and his grandpa had that bond.  His grandpa has passed away, but I think this will be a nice surprise for him

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
