Hurricane Odile - Resort Damage Updates

Thank you for the update @SweetT  I was able to find a couple of pictures of my resort and the damage was pretty bad.  I told FI that maybe we should reschedule for another resort and he was resistent as he told me that we were going to get married in Feburary in Cabo as we love Cabo and we loved all of the hardworking people we have met in Cabo.  I know rebuilding the town will not happend in 5 short months, but going to Cabo, donating some money to relief, bringing some clothing which I was going to give to the local thrift stores and bringing our little bit of business there will help, even if it is just a little bit.  I want to help so bad, as I just cannot fathom what the locals are going through.

Hi Ladies,

I am scheduled to get married at Riu Palace Cabo San Lucas on December 6th.  I have not heard anything from my wedding planner, just an update from the website to call their call center regarding reservation.  Has anyone heard about future bookings for Riu?

Hey @@PamBradWedding, I'm getting married at the Riu Palace in Cabo on 11/15 and I havent heard anything either. I spoke to corporate who claimed that we should be fine since they plan to reopen the hotel for guests next week. However, a day or two later, I saw a Riu update on facebook that they were currently assessing the damage. I am going to try and call again later today. I'm pretty concerned.. Let me know if you hear anything too! When I had emailed the WC on Monday, I got her out of office and no response since.

Hi Melissa113, I called the call center last Wednesday 9/17 and had the same response.  According to the personnel that I spoke with, they may probably be back in operation by October but he said that they don't know the extent of the damages. All they know was that the hotel had some flooded areas. Here's where get my updates: http://www.riu.com/en/Paises/mexico/los-cabos/hurricane-odile.jsp.  I sent an email to Lupita today and I will let you know if I hear anything from her.

My wedding was November 9th at One & Only Palmilla. Confirmed cancelled yesterday after getting some wishy-washy information all week. They basically told me many of the resort corporate people haven't been able to go down and assess damage yet so essentially all the resorts are giving estimates (ours was originally to be open October 15th). Anyway, the corporate people drove from California to assess damage and said Cabo was in horrible shape. Our resort likely won't open until December or January at full operational status. They were really honest with me about even if they did open that they wouldn't recommend coming because of the shape Cabo is in. I was so so so upset but at least they were honest. Not to discourage anyone but I thought I would share. We are working on booking Santa Barbara for the same date, everyone I've spoken with has been so helpful and apologetic. I haven't changed my plane tickets yet but am going to work on it as soon as I firm up these plans. I am really only out money to my photographer who hopefully will be understanding.

Hello fellow Cabo brides!

I am getting married at Sandos Finisterra on December 6th and I just got this note from Lupita today:

Dont worry everything will be fine for December; right now I am not In Los Cabos, so I dont have access to the wedding files; by the first week of october I will back to los cabos, and we can continue with the coordination of the details for your big day.

Just wanted to pass that along to those of you who may have wedding dates later this year.

My heart really goes out to those of you who have been severely affected. Please keep us posted as to how you make up with the shuffle of plans!!

@@Emmalu02 well that sounds promising! It has been really heard hearing lots of conflicting reports. I saw a lady posted on their facebook page today that that was at Sandos Finisterra during the hurricane and she said the aftermath was horrible (her words were that the resort was "destroyed") and that she wouldn't recommend going for a couple of years! However I am staying positive and feel as though if we still have our wedding there we will be supporting the local economy! I hope that those of you who will have your wedding's there in the upcoming months will be able to share pictures and reviews of the resort and town and whether or not you are happy with your decision to still have your wedding there.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
