Why Do Weddings Bring Up Family Drama?

That's all. I'm not going to sit here and write paragraphs upon paragraphs off the sh*t that is going on right now but holy sh*t. Not to sound like a bridezilla here because I am far from it but can't people get over themselves for someone else's special time? Like honestly? Nothing like getting a rude text from your mother in law in the morning telling you she is angry and upset with you for something she is blaming you on doing, when you didn't even do it. Like honestly. Haven't talked to this woman in about month because she has been not present for any of her sons wedding stuff and is just into herself but she found the time to text me this morning that.

F*CK ME. That is all. I will have a good wedding regardless but sh*t ladies, when you read that wedding planning really brings out the true character in people & family members, you believe it. Cause it's true.

P.S I am going to be happy, because I CHOOSE to be and I am not going to let this bring me down. Honestly, I was joking about bringing hoedown music to our reception incase people try fighting like what happened at our shower/stag but now I think I might. *face palm*

AND THEY WONDERED WHY WE MOVED AWAY FROM THEM.

Rant over.

Going to pick up some wine tonight.

Oh no! Well, hey, at least you have a good attitude about it! I'm one of the last of my friends to get married and they've ALL had drama to deal with. I guess it just goes with the territory.

I'm somewhat culpable in the drama in my family - because I selectively invited aunts, uncles, and cousins - and by selective I mean I only invited about 1/3 of them and I definitely invited some cousins and NOT their parents. So, of course, that creates plenty of gossip. I have good reasons for not inviting them based on bad behavior around a funeral (which also can bring out the worst in people), so I'm completely comfortable in my decisions. Plus none of them live by me so I don't really have to see/hear it!

Fortunately, my immediate family creates no drama (minor annoyances, yes, but not usually drama) but there is still plenty of time for future mother-in-law drama for me. We haven't actually heard from her at all in several months despite numerous phone calls, so not really sure what is going on there!

Hang in there! You're in the home stretch!

I could use some wine, want to meet up? hahahah!

I never quite understand the people that are never there in the good, but can find some bad to peak their heads out. Take the upper road, like you are, and try to ignore her.

God the blemishes this week for me, on my face, are unreal. I can't take anymore stress! OMG!

We will all need AA after this is over.

Hahahahaha. I still have 53 days to go till we leave, I am sure I will need numerous bottles of wine over the next 7 weeks! LOL

I feel you. I don't have blemishes... Yet. My IBS has been majorly flaring up though. Honestly, if it wasn't for bootcamp, I would probably lose my sh*t. Let's just say I have been really giving er' at the classes the past few weeks.

Didn't end up having wine yesterday... Was a vodka night.. And we ordered in pizza. Great for stress relief, not good for the diet. :)

Haha that's the problem, you give in to comfort items due to stress then you stress out you blew your diet. It's a viscous circle!!!

I was so stressed out this week I didn't even workout. Though I know I'd feel better so kudos to you. Thankfully I still lost on the scale!!

I get cystic acne and lots require antibiotics so I'm hoping that if I don't pick at them I can avoid it. Sorry your IBS is flaring up. Hopefully boot camp helps!

The things we do for love haha

Amen sister!

SO MUCH DRAMA!!

It's hard not to get caught up in it because it is family, and you feel these obligations to listen.

People seem to think they have a right to have an opinion on your choices and decisions and they feel they should be listened too.

I think it's them projecting what they wanted in their wedding that they didn't get or did get and therefore everyone else should do it that way.

I'm trying to keep the involvement to the minimum by not bringing up the topic. Also by deflecting, changing the topic and saying I haven't given it much thought.

I haven't had toooo much drama but enough to cause a headache. But we still have over a year to go so I'm sure we'll encounter more.

So my fiancée is Jamaican and you know, seeing as we're getting married there you'd think HIS parents would be happy? Nope. His dad at first was mad we were spending too much money on the wedding...but when my fiancée explained how much cheaper it was he was fine with it. His mom was happy with it but now she's giving him a guilt trip because she has to pay for her flights and his two younger brothers (his parents are divorced). Ugh!

My parents have been supportive the whole time thank god! My aunts are excited minus one who wasn't rude but asked why we couldn't get married locally. I explained about the finances, etc. She was fine with it, and she's actually throwing me a bridal shower bc she can't afford to attend. Apart from that I haven't had too much drama....yet!

Now onto the bridal shower planning....well I live in TX and I am from MA so I was planning to go home around January to go dress shopping, so when I spoke to my aunt I told her that and she said she'd plan it for that time. Well now my grandmother and my mom are all why don't you come later so there won't be snow, etc. Our wedding is in October so I told my grandmother I can't wait until spring to go dress shopping! It takes months to get an order in. So she says why don't you order your dress there. Well silly me I thought you'd all like to be there for me to go dress shopping....now I have no idea what to do! Oh family! Gotta love them.

What you need to do, is what works best for you :)  If you want to go in January - go in January! who cares if there is snow!!  timing seems to work well for you, so stick to your guns.  It's tough but what we are all learning on this board is that you need to do what works best for you! good luck!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
