Is It "bad" To Buy Real Starfish?

Recommended Posts

I can't really find much info online about it. I consider myself an animal lover (though now I do eat meat) and don't really want to buy anything that was harvested shadily- does anyone know if they are legit plucked off the beach after death or something along those lines?

Anyone have a good website for faux starfish?

If I did buy real ones, did people have problems getting them through customs?

thanks

Funny you post about this.

I was just thinking the other week how it's pretty morbid that people unknowingly... or knowingly, use exoskeletons as wedding decor.

Creeeeepy.

I think there are many more creative ways to go about decorating.  If that is what your heart desires, there are PLENTY of diy tutorials out there that show you how to create faux starfish.

Great question :)

Yeah .. I know this post was a couple months ago, but did you hear about the virus killing millions of starfish up and down the Pacific coast?

I had real ones for my invitations, and they were beautiful! But most did not make it since I didn't wrap them well. Most people got a pile of sand in their invitations. Haha! Please let me know if you find a nice faux starfish. :-)

I know I'm a little late to the party, but did you ever find your answer about getting starfish/shells through customs? I've been wondering that myself, since it's a big focal point of my centerpiece.

I got married in October in Cancun and had no problems getting my starfish and shells thru customs both ways. I had a lot too!! I had starfish chair ties-- 10 and large starfish for the aisle. I had saved all my Crate and Barrel wedding gift packaging.... all of them made it there without breaking!! It was a beautiful touch.

Hope this helps!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
