Complete Meltdown - Possible Wedding Cancellation!

Since I already had a thread going here about our wedding troubles - I'd thought I'd add another little vent. Even though I am not doing a DW anymore, I'm still poking around on the site - mostly because the support is great, the ideas translate to an at home wedding and the people are amazing!!!

So after EVERYTHING we have been through in booking this wedding - from the DW cancellation, to the scrambling to find another venue, to booking our major aspects.... we were finally all caught up, moving forward and enjoying the wedding process....

-until-

My FI lost his job last week - out of nowhere, technically no cause - no warning. And BOOM - our household income drops by more than 50%.....

Honestly - how do you get a break in this world? So now I'm debating if I can even feel comfortable putting down a final $400 in deposits (hair/makeup, officiant, dj) when financially, we just took a HUGE hit.

On top of it - he is in an industry where you can't just find any job - its a long process to get a job, and most positions that he would be obtaining are still a 50% pay cut from his previous job since he had worked his way up there quite quickly.... his parents are willing to help, but I hate asking.

Bah... just when you think you're in the clear....

I'm so sorry to hear that. My family has been in that position before and I honestly would never wish it upon anyone. I completely understand how you feel. In your position I probably wouldn't put any more money down because I wouldn't know how much time we'd have to go with only one income. That's my opinion but I'm always that kind of girl though who goes on the conservative side of things. I wish you the best

Thanks @@TinkerSofi... I'm the same way.  We are very lucky as my FI and I have enough accessible income to support us for awhile - with my salary we only need about $2000 from him a month to stay on top of things, so we have enough to technically sustain for 2 years without any additional income. I think after the cancellation of our last wedding that this one will still go ahead, because I know his parents will be jumping in to help (and we have people already booked from the UK to come to Calgary).

Its just hard to let that money go....

Oh my :( I'm so sorry to hear this. I hope that things sort themselves out and he can find new work. What type of work does he do? Just thinking if any of us Calgary ladies have some connections for you.

I'd probably hold off on deposits right now too and see what happens. While I totally understand not wanting to ask for help, this is one case where we should and our families would back us up.

Hugs.

I know, but I would agree to accept help from your parents. I think I would do the same for my family just to see them happy for that day, especially after all you guys have been through. If they can help and they are offering I would accept. Maybe think of the money as a loan and you can return it once you guys are back on your feet?

Yes we are definitely considering that as an option.  FI has an interview tomorrow that I am hopeful for (even with a +50% pay cut from the previous job).  However, given his profession there is a very real chance we may wind up heading east for a job for him.  We've decided that we will still go forward with this wedding here, even if we wind up moving away... so much going on!

I hope all you girls are having a bit of an easier go with the wedding plans than I am  :)

@@KAT2015 What a bummer you've had such a hard time with the wedding planning! One of us losing our jobs is one of my top fears just because, as you mentioned, it can happen without any reason and with no notice! I make us aggressively save every month because of this and still never feel like we have enough. I am not one of those people who say "everything happens for a reason" because I don't think things like this are predetermined, but I DO think things have a funny way of working out for the better in the end even though it is so hard to imagine that in the moment. Whether that means he lands a new, better job or the turn of events makes something about your wedding even more special - I hope you're surprised in a pleasant way in the end!

I can relate to your troubles. Since my fiance and I got engaged in December 2013, my mom passed away in February, his grandma (who raised him) passed away in April, and now he is having surgery in 2 weeks to remove a cancerous tumor. Not EXACTLY how we thought out wedding planning year would go and can't say I'm glad for ANY of it, but even though we've been together for 8 years, this year has brought us even closer together in new and different ways. We are hoping this cancer thing is done after his surgery, but if not I don't know what we'll do about the wedding.

I'll say what everyone keeps telling me - 2015 is going to be our year! At least for me, it can only go up :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
