Cancelling Bridesmaids?

Recommended Posts

I ordered a convertible dress from Etsy, It is supposed to be here next week, but now I'm worrying that it won't arrive before I go on vacation next sat, and I won't get to see it til the end of Sept! My plan is to try it on myself and see what I think, and if I like it I'll ship it to my bridesmaids to try (one size fits all) and if they don't like it, they are responsible for finding their own dresses in the same colour.

So I could just be having an ultra pissy day, but my bridesmaid has done f-all to help me out. I'm getting married in 2 months and still don't have dresses. They have been difficult when it comes to agreeing on styles, and I have looked everywhere I can possibly think and have ordered online (I had to return them) and now feel like this is the biggest, most unnecessary stress. I'm so over looking, and frankly, sort if feel like I just want to tell them I don't want bridesmaids anymore. Is that totally bitchy of me?

Money is tight these days, and lets face it, bridesmaids dresses are really, really, really ugly and expensive.

I think it's a great idea to pick a color you want them to wear... blue, pink, red whatever, and just tell them to buy their own dress wherever they want in the shade that you want.  Compromise.   I think it makes it better, since they get to pick a shade that works great with their own skin, as well as a dress that compliments their body, rather than picking one dress, that someone may look great in, and makes another girl feel like she wasted money on a dress that makes her look frumpy.

I was in a wedding where the Bride wanted us to wear shades of off-white/ivory and it worked amazing.  We picked out our own dresses.

I was in another wedding where the Bride picked a specific blue, but we all got to get our own style of dress that we felt prettiest in.

I personally, will not be having bridesmaids.  I think some people think it's an obligation that they really don't want to commit to, and I can understand that.  I believe that just having my girlfriends make the trip to Mexico is a huge honor in itself, I don't want to infringe more stuff on them.

Good luck in whatever your end choice may be.

My sister/bridemaid found dresses last night. They appear to work and I'm just waiting for them to come in the mail. Best part? $40! But my one sister is already complaining. I'm about to tell her to forget about even wearing a dress. What is with bridesmaids? Stop making this harder, when you are supposed to be helping! I'm going to be such a better bridesmaid in the future.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
