I think fans are a must for comfort of the guests...its going to be hot and the fans will help alleviate some of the heat..at least that's my opinion.. and I'm pretty sure the men will use them..I'm picking colored ones so it will add slash of color. I also wanted to do the maracas at the dinner table for splash of color but finance nixed that idea :(

Which actual fans did you choose?

Has anyone ordered from paper lantern store? That's where I am thinking I'll do my order from for $1/fan. I know a bride on here bought her maracas in puerto vallarta for $1 each as well so I think I'll hold off until I get to mexico - we will bring tags for both the maracas and fans.

A lot of brides go into Playa Del Carmen.

I had considered it but with the cost to get there, not to mention the time, then writing our names on them, attaching a tag, etc. I felt I would lose a good day doing it. Felt it was easier and safer to just get them and have them ready to go.

It's a great idea though!

On my maracas will have a tag that says:

'Instead of tapping on your glass, here's a system with Mexican class. Stand and shake with all your might, to see the groom kiss his bride tonight'

Other side is a thank you note.

The large rafia fans or the ones that fold up small?

Honestly, given the price of Oriental Trading's product, your resorts are probably the same if not better quality!  I would use theirs, they are included!

I bought the wooden fold up ones...thought the rafia ones would be bulky to pack!

@@calgarybride2015 try your local chinatown....I don't remember if Calgary has one or not...coule be that I spent all my time on the stampede grounds! lol

I was looking for fans in chinatown and found some really nice accordion folding fans for $0.79! they fold up pretty small and thin so wouldn't take up much space. I am also saw paper laterns there ranging from $1-2.

Worth checking it out!

Yes Calgary has a Chinatown, it is downtown!!  Never thought of that. Thanks for the idea.

Oriental Trading is still much cheaper than $0.79 but if the quality is good, it may be worth it.

Remember when we were talking about who gets a fan? ie - only females, not males?

Well fiance told me he went to a wedding where they had fans and the ushers only handed them out to the women.

Just thought I would throw that out there :)

@@chelseapaige37 do you just go off the resort to find the maracas / fans at a market or something?

Probably at a market - another bride told me they were very easy to find, and i think she paid $1/piece.

I'll be there a week before so will have time go look. If it doesn't work out, oh well!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
