Stepbrothers?

Recommended Posts

I have been engaged for about 8 months. We've got a guest list (just immediate family and the wedding party), picked our resort, everything is tentatively set up, just waiting for the fall 2015 schedules to be released so we can actually book. Somehow, I managed to forget until last night that I have two stepbrothers.

My mother remarried in her 50's to a man from England. He has two sons from his first marriage who live in England. I have only met one of them once at the wedding and the other one twice. We have no contact and I know nothing about them. Do I need to invite them to the wedding? I can't imagine that they would fly over for the wedding, and they are complete strangers to me, so can I get away with not inviting them?

Hmm, can you ask your mom and stepdad what they think? That would be my first move. If not, I would probably invite them, just because. But if you are really tight with the budget and your mom and stepdad don't seem to care, it probably wouldn't matter. It sounds like they would likely not come anyway? maybe you could bank on that and just send them a courtesy invite.

I have 3 step brothers as my dad remarried after my mom passed away. I've seen them maybe 3 times in the 8 years they've been married and I in NO way feel obligated to invite them and no one has mentioned a word. It's your wedding, do what you'd like to do!

Personally I feel it should be based on your relationship to them. Not everyone should have an auto invite cause you are connected some how IMO.

I would say you don't *need* to invite them. I know and adore my stepmom's mom, but I did not invite her. I mean, she is older and probably wouldn't attend anyway, but we have to draw the line somewhere!

Ok. I feel like if I would have to ask how to spell their names, they probably aren't close enough to be invited to an intimate wedding ceremony.

Nope and you aren't a bad person for making that decision.

They didn't even cross my mind until I read your post - and I don't feel bad whatsoever!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
