I've been researching , and really leaning towards the Mayan Riviera for cost and location, not too long of a flight with babies. The only thing, my fiance is worried about the criminal activity in Mexico. I tried to tell him, there's really no reason to leave the resort other than to see the ruins... Idk. Insights and feedback appreciated!

I don't think anyone can attest there is crime in Mexico, but think about how much crime there is at home you know?

If you pick the Mayan side you are picking the safest areas in Mexico.  My fiance's cousin lives in Merida and has for many years - he raised his kids there.  They are Canadian.  (Merida uses the Cancun airport too).  My fiance's brother and their family are also moving there at the end of October.

I think at the end of the day, there is crime EVERYWHERE!  And if you stick to the resort or the tourist areas off the resort you will be fine.  Bad things happen to people in the wrong place at the wrong time, but that happens in your own backyard too.  If you go out looking for drugs, or trouble, you will probably find it. If you just keep to yourself you will be fine.

I have been to the Mayan. I went shopping in Playa Del Carmen and I also went on an excursion (XPlor) and had a fabulous time.  I never once felt unsafe.  I was scared at first as I had never left Canada or USA, but quickly realized I was fine.

Ok, great! Shopping sounds fun, probably some good bargains! It really does seem like the most likely spot for us.

Playa Del Carmen was cute - they had the local touristy shops, then high end shops too!  Mexico does cater to us that is forsure.

The thing about the Mayan that is unlike other areas is that you are out in the jungle, off what I call the 'super highway'.  So you can't just walk off your resort to the towns, etc.   In Cancun I believe you can and in Puerto Vallarta but not as easy in the Mayan.  Someone can correct me if I am wrong, but I wouldn't have been comfortable doing it.  You went a long way!   In Cuba we just walked wherever.

Hi! Thanks, you too! Dreams Riviera Cancun is in my top 3 along with Iberostar Paraiso Lindo, and Fiesta Americana Condessa Cancun. I don't think you can go wrong. I would just go to the review pages for the resort and find out about the wedding coordinator, that may be our deal maker/breaker.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
