Hair & Makeup Not In Hotel Room?

Recommended Posts

Is anyone else getting their makeup done outside of their hotel in Playa del Carmen/Playacar? I'm really finding it a struggle to find someone that's willing to do it

Of the many that I contacted, one has offered to do it in her home, one has said that they can rent a chair at another salon and sort me out there, one has suggested that we rent a room at a budget hotel and I had a very long and winding email conversation with another where they insisted on knowing my full name and name of the booking at my hotel (even though I pointed out that I wasn't coordinating any part of the wedding through the hotel and wanted to come to them) before finally telling me that no, they could only come to me. And several others who also can only come to me.

It's only going to be me, so I don't want to cough up $350 for someone to come in and do my makeup. (side note - my hotel originally quoted me $200 and then suddenly it was $350 for 2015 when I questioned it!)

Am I the only one in this situation? Is it just me that's finding it a struggle? Can anyone recommend any studios in or around Playa? Other than Styling Trio as I don't know if I can afford their prices!!!

I have no advice as I am not brave enough to leave the resort on the day of the wedding. Don't want to be late!

$200 isn't bad I would hold them to their original quote. My resort for both will cost me over $200. Our prices also say 2014 but that's what they send me so I will fight tooth and nail if they try to change them. I just assumed you got the prices current as to when you book.

Good luck

I booked MVP makeup and artistry. My resort won't allow outside vendors on, so I got a hotel room in Akumal for the morning of the wedding and we are getting our hair done there. I know they have various prices depending if Melissa does it or someone from her team but I am extremely impressed with their work and splurged. Worth a try to check out.

I'm debating whether to travel to MVP's studio in PDC to avoid the $250 vendor fee. Our hotel is only 10 mins away from PDC so I don't really know for sure what to do.

After speaking to Beso Brides/Yucatan I'm going to hire a budget hotel room (with air con!) and meeting them there. It's working out as still being less than the cost of the vendor fee alone! I'm also really excited to have them as they seem to have really great reviews. I've had great fun this week putting together hair and makeup ideas. :D

I got so worked up over this last week but almost everyone I spoke to was so helpful. Touch wood this is as stressful as it gets!

Deep breaths, NotSoWitty! Everything will be ok :)

Good thing you got a room with air con, the humidity here in Playa will definitely melt make-up - don't forget primer!

I kind of hate being self-promotive but I wrote a blog that might help you, almost the entire middle section is about wedding day make-up!

Good luck!

What time is your wedding? I'm planning on traveling to a salon because I can't pay that much for hair and make up in addition to our resortr $300 vendor fee + their day passes. Our ceremony isn't until 4 or 5 so we would have plenty of time plus would help the whole not running into each other on the resort the day of. I'm shopping around for prices still so keep name dropping :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
