Where Do I Start?!

HI!!! I'm Krysten, new to this site. My FI and I are bouncing around the idea of skipping the ceremony in our home state of Michigan and just going to Mexico for our wedding. Our current plan is to just do a quick quiet ceremony at home, and then do the symbolic ceremony in Mexico. We are thinking April, 2015 and maybe 15 guests (that's pushing it i think.) My question for you is....where do I start?! Is this really going to save us money? A local southeast Michigan reception with less than 100 guests was about to cost us upwards of $15000. I don't see the point in spending that kind of money.

If we do an all inclusive resort, what is the point of having a reception? can't we just go to dinner after and use the "nightlife" as a reception? Do people do this? HELP!!!

I think the costs of DW can add up quickly and is not always the cheapest alternative to weddings at home. However…when the average wedding at home is more like $20,000-30,000+, than a DW becomes a cheaper option. 100 guests will mean you needs to buy a bigger package and spend more on upgrades. If you choose a smaller, more intimate wedding, your costs could be under $5000. Good luck and happy planning!

Hi

I'm also a newbie to the site.  We got engaged in July and we both wanted to get married on a beach.  We are booking the ceremony at Dreams Riviera Cancun and our honeymoon at Secrets Maroma in November 2015.

I am very excited but don't know when I can start all the planning with the resort.  I am already looking at invitations and trying to get ideas about floral centerpieces and how to light the reception  as I would love to have it at sunset on the beach.

Does anyone have any advice or ideas?

You can start planning whenever you want.  What's great about planning early is you have plenty of time to change your mind :)  This is what I have enjoyed - I booked about 9 months out!  just over 4 months to go.

If you haven't already booked your wedding at Dreams, I would do that ASAP as dates go quick and you want your first pick!  Then you should get all the stuff from the resort to make all your choices, upgrades, etc.  Our resort did this anyways!  Gave me tonnes of time to read thru, look at all my options, and ask +++ questions.

Good luck!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
