Traveling To Another Country From Mexico For The Honeymoon?

Are there any places that are fairly easy to travel to from Mexico? Has anyone ever done this? I don't mind just changing resorts 2 days after the wedding but at the same time I love the idea of starting a new adventure and going somewhere else completely. My fiancé doesn't want to do Costa Rica - he would like to be in a place known for beaches. Belize I hear is beautiful but you would have to take a 6-8 hour bus ride - not happening. Thinking maybe Turks and Caicos? Not sure yet.

Thoughts?

Generally speaking flights out of Mexico and on to another sun destination are expensive... Even if you hop to Mexico City for your out of country departure.

You may find it less expensive to move hotels and try a different resort for your honeymoon- or you may find a cruise that allows

Embarkation in Mexico but travels to other destinations?

I agree.  I have looked into possibly going from Mexico to Europe and it is very expensive.  We may just take our honey moon a few months after the wedding...but also switch resorts after the guests leave and unwind a little.

Yea I might just wait until some time after our wedding to travel to a new place. It looks like flights to Turks and Caicos are just 5 hours with one stop - everything else has multiple stops and therefore take way too long. Flights for that a time period would be about 700 per person- to go from Cancun to Turks then from Turks to NYC. Doesn't seem too bad but I know the price will likely change. Not sure if I will go through with it though. It would be easier to just change resorts.

We couldn't find anything easy without spending an entire day traveling. We have decided we would take our honeymoon a few months after the actual wedding and we are staying at NOW Sapphire (where the wedding will be held at) for 6 days then switching to Secrets Marmora for the remainder of the trip so we can have some alone time.

Good luck!! =0)

@@Chrysta Yea I think we will just go the easier route and switch resorts. We had actually picked Secrets Marmora to stay at for the alone time also! Their resort looks beautiful!

  • 11 months later...

I realize this is an older post, but... We were originally thinking of heading to Belize after our wedding. But it's either about 9 hours by land/boat or about $850 CAD one-way from CUN to BZE for the two of us (we were planning to fly home from BZE). Ouch. Plus we were going to use Aeroplan points to fly home, and to get decent connections we needed to leave a day earlier than I would have liked (or faced 30 hours in travel time).

So... poking around today, I found a direct flight from CUN to San Jose, Costa Rica. It's on a Mexican "budget" airline called Volaris. Has anyone use this airline or gone to Costa Rica from Cancun? Flight is 2.5 hours and will cost us about $750 return CUN/SJO. Then we can fly back home direct from CUN.

Overall, it will cost us about $100 more to go to CR as compared to Belize (if we were to fly from CUN), but we also get an extra day due to better schedules and we don't have to burn our points.

I'm curious if anyone has done this before. Or has any general recommendations for CR. We'll have 6 full days, arriving and departing from SJO. Would love both beach time & some jungle/volcano exploring.

@@vancouverpetunia I think that's a great idea. We originally were thinking Belize also but the travel options were a bit much for us. We decided to return home and fly elsewhere - after we already bought our return flight we decided on Costa Rica, so instead of changing our flight to go straight from Mexico, we came home for a day or two to drop off wedding things, wash clothes, and re-pack. I'm glad we did cause we spent a day sleeping at home, needed to recharge and then headed back out feeling refreshed!

We flew to SJO and took a 2-3 hour drive to Nayara Springs - a super small romantic resort, we had a private villa and private hot springs pool and everything. SO romantic and relaxing - there's also many options for more adventure in the area as it is located within the forest area, only thing is its is no where near a beach. For us, we didn't mind that since we just came from Mexico, but it wouldn't be a good option for you if you want beach but it is closer to the volcanic/adventure area.

Good Luck!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
