@kmk2016 How did you get your prices and bookings so early? I've been hearing a year out is even a bit early to start looking at flights!

I am so glad that I am not the only one! In our families it's my family who is well travelled, most of his don't have their passports. The most surprising part to me is that his family doesn't seem surprised about the price at all. I just hope once we get official prices/dates then people don't start searching on expedia... I'm sure they will I just don't want to hear about how they could get a cheaper deal elsewhere lol.

In Canada packages work so much different and since we did a group booking we got a deal at that time.  Our price was always about $120 cheaper than expedia.  Our plane is about sold out (less than 10 seats about 3 weeks ago) so that drove up the listed price HUGE! Like $350 ish dollars, so never at any time could our guests find a better price and since the plane is sold out I am glad people booked with us or they would have to book thru another airline.

I'm curious at all the Canadians on this site. Is this just my imagination? Or do you feel that Canadians tend to have more destination weddings? You guys also seem to get some great deals! (except on shipping from places in the US :) I feel like it's becoming more popular in the US but still more rare, at least with people I have heard about, to have a destination wedding.

@nadiakat17

I honestly have no idea, it seems like a decent mix on here of where people are from.

With respect to travel packages Canadians are getting a much better deal, but I think from our perspective you guys get a lot more deals than we do, including shipping!!!  Some prices you guys post blow my mind on articles of clothing, shoes, supplies, etc.

Maybe more Canadians do it because our travel packages are an incentive.

I mean I can fly to Vegas with airfare and hotel for 4 nights cheaper than I can just fly somewhere that would be 12 hours by car.  Why wouldn't I just go to Vegas? lol....

@@calgarybride2015 I'm from Saskatchewan, very close to the AB border! Our guests will be split flying from Saskatoon, Regina, Edmonton, Calgary and Winnipeg. Your travel agent must be amazing!

@@nadiakat17 I think our weather is so terrible we have to get away! I am always so jealous of the very southern U.S. brides who can go for 3-4 day holidays. It's pretty much a whole day there and back so a weekend would mean only a day in paradise!

I have an amazing TA that worked with the tour operator (sunwing) about getting me a locked in contract before release date (this can be done when a TA submits the request old school paper- so it takes longer than when they can simply submit electronically. It was great! It has allowed me to have a lot of time for my guests to put down their deposits down and save.... And we have a price drop guarantee which will lower the price if it comes down in the coming months.

As for the question regarding the number of Canadians who do DW it is because we have tour operators that do packages. This is very different than US. Since the planes are charters only filled with guests travelling for 7 day holidays to all inclusive locations, they tend to make the prices very attractive to fill the plane.... And include transfers etc. Because of this, DW to AI resorts are very common for Canadians.

We only have 2 gateways (Calgary and Toronto) so not sure if that makes a difference, or if Air Canada offered a better price?  Who did you use?

We have 4 gateways plus US guest, land only rates... We had the same price for Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton. Our Toronto departures were a bit less. This was with Sunwing travelling to Cancun.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
