Destination Wedding Money Savers?

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

My fiance and I are getting married at the Iberostar Rose Hall Suites resort in January 2015. I am hoping to save some money where I can, does anybody have any suggestions in terms of

- wedding favors

- DIY center pieces that can be flown to the hotel

- bouquet suggestions?

And any cost-savers I may not have thought of! Thanks :)

Hello!

My wedding package included mine and fiance's flowers. I was going to use pin wheels to save on cost for the BMs but when I asked for a quote it came back at $22 for the BM for 3 Gerbers so I went for it. Hehe my splurge.

My centerpieces candles are only those mini white pails (people use for favors) and I found at dollarama for $1.25 for 3. Needed 18. I have enough votives at home to put in them. Also blinged them out for $1.50 at michaels.

Will use pink picture frames for table numbers. $3 each at michaels and then scatter shells on the tables. $1 a bag at dollar store. I got one extra BM bouquet and will use theirs for my centerpiece flowers.

Super cheap, non breakable and beachy!

I made my daughters own flower girl pail. $6 pail which I painted while and tied ribbon on. My sons is a shell to hold rings. $5 at michaels.

For favors we went with maracas which were $1.65 per pair at Amols. Will buy a pen to personalize. Also making luggage tags.

Anything DIY will be cheaper. Once you have your ideas search on here how to do it/find templates.

I am not doing OOT bags to save $$. But have decided to do a pre travel letter. I also had a strict budget for bridal party gifts.

Good luck

Edit: I'm trying to stick in my budget and be frugal wherever I can but also realize it only happens once. I will bend on things that really matter but not on others. It's a tough balance.

I am considering doing 3 different sized vases (from dollar tree) with flowers in water inside and those little lights that sit at a bottom of a vase. im not doing traditional favors per say (rather buying maracas while in mexico - heard they are pretty cheap) and also doing raffia program fans- this will probably total 3-4$ per person. Flowers you can buy online, but the really nice ones are almost as expensive as real ones- I would see what your resort offers (like smaller bouquets) or depending on where you are getting married, research markets/flower shops and just buy some the morning of or day before.

I'm really saving big by using an ipod and song system instead of DJ

At our resort the sound system is $42 and the DJ $59 so not much savings!

Wow! At my resort, the DJ is $1,300 vs $440 for the sound system so it's a considerable savings to go with the sound system. Though I'm debating between paying for the sound system or buying a portable sound system for the same price that I can use after the wedding.

wow that is a large price difference.  In your case I would have probably went for the ipod or buying our own sound system!

That's what I truly loved about our resort -- they didn't overprice the extras.

What did you decide on?

Still deciding between ipod or buying our own. Decided that I can add a lot more money to our photography budget if I don't have a DJ!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
