First Dance - Plans For All You Ladies?

Recommended Posts

Ha! I'm with you on the awkwardness. I've seen that some people do it on the beach right after their ceremony in conjunction with a champagne toast - that might be less awkward since everyone was JUST staring at you for the ceremony anyway! We aren't going to have a DJ so it'll be a pain to "schedule" songs into the playlist. BUT, I think my dad would be really sad if I didn't do a father/daughter dance. But my fiance is not very close with his mom and I know he won't want to do a mother/son dance.

I hadn't given this much thought until I saw this post! Hmmm...

My FI hates being the centre of attention and only hits the dance floor after a few drinks... I find the whole "everyone stare at us as we pretend to have this quiet moment together as we dance" totally akward and staged (for me) so we aren't doing one! No "scheduled dances" at all actually, it will be dinner with a few speeches and then hit the dance floor, get the drinks flowing and let the party start!

It's my second marriage so my dad won't be crushed that he doesn't have the father/daughter dance... And I'm sure we will dance together over the course of the night- but I don't like the feel for the "required dances"... It usually results in a bunch of bored people sitting around wondering when THEY can dance! Haha

I had looked into maybe getting lessons, but haven't really done anything with it so not sure we will.

We are trying to decide what to do. We picked our song, but I am not sure I want to be out there with all eyes on me for 4 mins, so we thought maybe half way thru we could do our parental dances to the same song.

I don't know ahhhhhh

I love those videos you see of the slow dances turn awesome dance routines but it is so overdone now that I don't know if I want to do that either.

I don't know, I might just want to enjoy the moment... my friends just did the slow dance into a montage of hilarious dances to different songs- they did a really good job actually but had to practice a lot

I think we're just going to dance to a normal song. I like the transition choreographed dances too but they are kind of overplayed and were not good enough dancers to pull it off haha

I'm debating on the whole "formality". Are you ladies having your djs mc as well, or someone separate? Wondering about introductions and stuff like that and if it's necessary for such a small wedding party. But then otherwise we'd just walk over from the cocktails? Haha

I don't think the introductions are necessary for a smallish group. My sister got married in Mexico last summer (60 guests) and didn't use a DJ. But all the wedding guests had already been hanging out with eachother for 2-3 days so everyone knew who the bridal party was. The bride and groom were the last to arrive at the reception anyway so there was kind of a natural cheer for them as they entered the room.

As the MOH, I actually helped with some of the flow of the reception. I queued people up for their speeches when it was their time. And then she did her first dance with her husband and her father/daughter dance immediately after dinner and DURING the slideshow. That worked out pretty well because people weren't just staring at them.

I don't think we are going to do introductions because we are doing welcome drinks when we arrive so everyone should know eachother by then.

Maybe just a newlywed welcome when we come to the reception from taking photos.

We are having a separate MC apart from the DJ.

What I plan to do is make a little cheat sheet for the MC on how I want my day to flow - right from the ceremony until the end of the night.   He can work with the DJ to use the microphone, etc.

We're just going to rent the sound system from the resort - so I will have a friend do MC for us.  I like to give everyone a job anyhow - I'm stuggling with my choices for the bridal party (ahem like my sister wanting to be a bridesmaid even though I am closer to all my friends and shes a pain) so by giving others a part in it, it might help.

We will do just a Normal slow dance to our song.... Love the idea of taking dance lessons though! It just isn't my groom

We've been learning to dance salsa for a year now so we are going to pay for a private lesson to learn some more showy moves and make a little choreography. We will be dancing to this song but we will probably cut it and mash it up with a slower song to keep it somewhat traditional :)
