Chinese Lanterns And/or Sparklers On Plane?

Recommended Posts

I am pretty sure sparklers are not allowed in check in baggage, but how about Chinese lanterns? I thought they are like giant candles? Anyone with any experience with this? Can you  buy sparklers in Mexico?

You are correct in that sparklers are not allowed. Depending on the fuel cartridge on your lanterns they may not be permitted either. Have you confirmed with your resort that Chinese flying wish lanterns are allowed? Most of Mexico have banned them due to fire hazards. I would double check with your WC for sure.

You can likely purchase your sparklers direct from your resort or make a trip to Walmart depending on your location.

Hey!  Our wedding coordinator clarified that we cannot have any of the Chinese lanterns.  It's too bad because it would have been so pretty - however- I totally get the dangers so we are trying to think of an alternative.

I like the sparklers - but I have not heard back from the WC if they are allowed.  I know that we'd have to forsure get them from a walmart in mexico.  I'm not 100% sure they carry the same kind we have here.

If anyone knows, please share!  :)

What resort are you getting married at ? I am really bummed about the Chinese lanterns. Sparklers might have to work!

@jh0510038

We are at the Grand Sunset Princess - June 2015.

From what I understand several if not all resorts in the mayan Riviera have the same rule.  It's soooo pretty though!!! lol

I am going to be travelling to Mexico in October to do a site an inspection and I am also going to get familiar with the walmart near by to see what they have available.  I will update to let you know if I find any sparklers.

I'm glad I checked this thread! I just googled, and you're only allowed 1 bic lighter or matchbook in your check in as well.  I was thinking about getting custom matchbooks - good to know they wouldn't be allowed through

I think that's in your carry on- NOT in checked (none permitted). I am sure that's the new rule/ but I could be wrong.

I wanted to do custom matchbooks too but when I called United Airlines to see if we could put them in our checked baggage I was told it was not allowed.  Kind of a bummer because we are having a cigar station and will have sparklers.   ^_^

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
