Our Dw: Dreams Riviera Cancun 17 Apr 2015

Recommended Posts

I want to be COMPLETELY done with anything wedding-related by the end of March. So, here goes:

Things to do this month

1. Cups should arrive this week, but we need to decide on what we are putting in them. We also need to decide on favors and get things ordered.

2. Make tags for cups.

3. Write and print welcome letters.

4. Wedding day Shoes - for both of us (I have barefoot sandals for the ceremony but want flats for the reception).

It's more of a matter of just going and picking some out, but we still need to find time to do this.

5. Fiance's Wedding Day Attire - Jake insisted that we could find what he liked and wanted to wear at a department store like Macy's (I knew he was wrong, but we went yesterday just to look). NOPE, we didn't find a thing. He said, "I guess we need to find something online."

----YEAH, I know! That's what I have been trying to *sweetly* tell him. Now, we have a month to find his clothes and I HOPE that they arrive in time and fit correctly. Oh, and did I mention he has several business trips this month and will be all over the country? Awesome.

6. Go to the courthouse to get legally married before we leave for Mexico.

7. Mail my ring to our Jeweler to get it cleaned (we moved so I don't have the luxury of just dropping it off and picking it up when they are done.)

8. Purchase gifts for moms. Yep, still working on that...

9. Pick out music for ceremony, cocktail, reception.

10. Design place cards.

11. Purchase alternative guestbook.

12. Find a dog sitter.

13. Write ceremony. Make that, revise ceremony if needed.

14. Finalize details with WC and getting a few answers to questions such as the length of the arch.

15. Order pencil starfish garland for arch (see #14).

15. Make sure we have enough luggage to pack decor, favors, etc

Things to do before we leave

1. RELAX and enjoy the time before our beautiful, wonderful Weddingmoon.

2. Get a mani/pedi.

@@acw271011 Thank you! Any suggestions? Did I miss anything...does it seem too long?

Do you mean custom charges from purchasing online and having it shipped to you?

...If not, I didn't even think about custom charges and taking stuff in to Mexico.... :o

No! Not at all!! I think it sounds beautiful! And you will be very surprised at how quickly the ceremony goes!!! lol We had a semi-religious ceremony in Jamaica when we got married, and I have to admit that at the end I stood there thinking "that's it?" lol It does go by very fast.

Now I'm working on words for our renewal and it has to be really special just because of everything we've been through. The standard ceremony stuff just doesn't fit since we're already married.

@@acw271011, is there an etiquette for tipping at an all-inclusive for a wedding? What about outside vendors?

If I had all of the money in the world, wedding planning would be more fun! The financial aspect of it is stressing me out!  <_<

Yeah I'm from canada so some products need to pay customs when they come in :(. I don't think you need to worry about Mexico because you tell them that they're gifts for people

Usually when you're paying separately for events the price includes a gratuity. Some places it's 15%, others quite a bit higher. I've seen it as high as 28% for a work event that we had, which blew me away.   I'm a bit funny when it comes to tipping. I don't like it being expected. I'm old fashioned enough that years ago it used to be a way to reimburse for exceptional service. Now everybody stands there with their hand out.

We tipped our videographer and our WC and since it was only the two of us for dinner, we left a tip on the table when we left. The flowers were delivered to the resort so there wasn't an opportunity to tip. Actually the coordinator we bought gifts for. We tried tipping our room maid but she said she wasn't allowed to accept it but that was Jamaica.

@@TinkerSofi, Yeah, I later told my fiance my concern about customs and going to Mexico. He then looked at me like I was nuts and said, "no, those are gifts. We aren't selling them."

There are so many brides on this site from Canada!  :)

I keep getting confused! Another bride had mentioned making an appointment to get legally married before going to her DW.. I started panicking and I was like  :o ! I thought we could just go to the courthouse with paperwork and voila!?

Then, she pointed out that they are in Canada and things are different. lol

@@pddcmc I love this!

Engagement ring

“The engagement ring is a symbol of promise and intention. Now, the intention is realized and the promise is fulfilled. Jake, please place the engagement ring on Tricia’s finger over her wedding band to symbolize that the love that brought you together will always protect and sustain your marriage.”

@@pddcmc Love your ceremony script!!! So personal and romantic - it's going to be amazing!

Also very jealous about you having family play live for your ceremony. It was my dream and it just so happens that my fiancé's entire family are string musicians - how perfect is that! Unfortunately trying to arrange for everyone to fly with their instruments is a logistical nightmare, especially when you start dealing with a cello (it requires its own seat)! We decided that it would be easier to have them record it and play. It makes me a little sad but it will still be a really nice personal touch.

I'm really thinking about getting those fans too but like TinkerSofi - I don't think I can justify more shipping and custom charges especially because I just ordered my OOT bags from Oriental Trading. Should have made just one big order!

I love everything about your post!!! I'm new to this and we just booked our wedding at Dreams Riviera for January 23, 2016. I honestly have no clue about wedding planning and seeing your insights on how you're doing things is totally helpful! Thank you so much for sharing your journey with us!!! :)

I feel the same way... It would be so easy if we weren't on a budget!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
