As a side note- we didn't do this at my first wedding with my XH. I had wanted his first look at me when I walked into the church on my dad's arm- and scheduled in 10 minutes after the ceremony for some quiet reflection together to take it all in. Well- that 10 minutes disappeared between rushing for photos, being behind schedule to the reception, some unexpected emergency here and someone needing us there... In the end, we looked at each other at the end of the night exhausted and realized the day was a total blur. This time around I'm determined to do things different (on so many levels haha) and this is most definitely a learning that I'm taking from my first marriage and making a priority this time around.

Definitely doing a first look. I think it's so important to have that "us" time.

True dilemma for sure, depends entirely on you guys and what you want for the day. What ever you decide don't let anyone tell you off for not doing it 'right', sometimes the most well-intentioned comments can be down right rude and quite upsetting. Just be sure on your decision and remember you don't have to justify it to anyone!

We won't be doing pictures before but we are doing things a bit different than traditionally expected. Sort of like beckys98, we are walking together down the aisle. We still wanted to have the magical moment of seeing each other for the first time that day all dressed up and about to be married AND wanted to share it with our family and guests so we came up with a plan! We will be walking in separately, on opposite sides of the guests seating area, meet up in front of everyone, hold hands and walk the last few steps together to the front where the Notary Public will be. :)

@@081114OVCUBA  That is a great idea it will be absolutely beautiful!! I want my Dad to walk me down the aisle, because well he's my daddy. But I think what you are doing is wonderful. Would be my second choice for sure, because your guests get to see that initial reaction of you seeing each other. Well done :)

Thanks @@Lilian84, Totally get where you are coming from. It is a beautiful tradition, there is a very special bond between father and daughter! I'm sure your Daddy will be grateful for the opportunity and it will be beautiful. :)

My first thought was to each have our respective parents walk down the aisle with us but FI kiboshed this pretty quickly. My parents didn't want to both walk me down the aisle, but would, without FI's parents walking him. We wanted to symbolize/portray that we were giving ourselves to each other more than a traditional 'giving away' does. This was something personal for us, a new age stance against tradition if you will. We totally know we are a minority on this decision and that is isn't the 'right' choice for everyone. Our decision will probably not be a popular one with our extended families; but, it is what WE want and after all is it OUR day right? :)

@081114OVCUBA  Absolutely is your day!!! Every wedding is unique and should be celebrated that way. Whenever we discuss something about the wedding we both know when it's the right thing to do. A wedding should represent who you are as a couple and symbolize your union.

I just realized your wedding is so soon!!! Hope all goes well and Congratulations!

Thank you :) and Congratulations on your engagement as well! I wish I would have found this site earlier on in my planning (resort and date selected in December 2013) there are great people on here and really good information. :)

I'm so lucky to have a FI who is flexible and very open to new ideas, he comes from a more traditional and religious background but to my surprise he is not set in any specific ways. (other then it wasn't cool for him to be walked down the aisle by both his parents lol)

It has been a really awesome experience planning the wedding, even after 6 years together he can still surprise me with little things and keep me smiling. I love your signature, I feel blessed this way too.

Yes, 9 days until the wedding, 5 days until we fly out of here, so.... 4 days left to finish packing! Its Tetris time :) Thank goodness we are each aloud 2 suitcases - I completed filled two with wedding stuff alone, hehe.

@081114ovcuba Yay for the wedding being so close but boooo for packing! I absolutely hate packing for regular trips, so I can't even imagine packing for my wedding.

This site is awesome so many ideas and hearing about people going through the same thing!

Let us all know how the wedding goes and post pictures!
