Fantastic Idea For Those Not Wanting To Designate A Bm/moh

Recommended Posts

I have to share a fabulous part of a cousins wedding In which I was a BM. She is in my bridal party or I would consider doing something similar..., but I wanted to share because it was one of the most unique and fabulous parts of her wedding and it would be such a great "solution" for us DW brides.

So.....

As guests arrived at the ceremony, they were asked to write their name on a small piece of paper and place it in a jar, as part of the bridal party, unannounced to us, our names were also added, no one knew what this was for, and just followed the ushers request.

At the end of the ceremony the officiant said- "although I can not yet officially announce you as husband and wife, you may now kiss the bride".,, and everyone was confused but whatever... Hahaha (some probably didn't even notice this part and assumed it was typical end to a wedding)

Then at the reception the Bride, Groom and Officiant stood up at the start and brought the jar up. It was explained to everyone in the room that there wasn't a single person more important than the next, or loved more than another that was there that day to celebrate their union- and that they wanted to include everyone in their life long bond. It was then explained by the officiant that she would pull two names from the jar, and those two people would come up and sign as witnesses and make the wedding official. The entire room cheered (and shed a tear or two because it was so meaningful)... And I have to say it was one of the best moments I have ever witnessed at a wedding! Once the paper was signed the officiant proudly said and "NOW I can announce you as husband and wife".

Obviously at a DW you may not be able to do the signing at the reception since you officiant is likely off to another resort doing another wedding by then- but it could easily be incorporated into the ceremony I would think!

Just an idea for those that don't have a Matron of Honor or Best Man and wanted to still have witnesses (even in a symbolic ceremony).

my best friend called us all her MOH because we all meant the same to her...ya well it never felt the same to us because I was hurt she had a differnt friend sign her papers...it was the different friend who stood by her side (then me) I guess I was just upset because she is my best friend and I felt hurt like she meant more to me than I did to her...and that friend is the type of girl she picks a new friend a month..guess it was her lucky month when they got engaged and asked her...its done and I'm over it...and she's my MOH ;)

It's what I want to avoid... I only have one father. If we both decide our fathers will sign no one can be hurt and everyone will feel like they mean a lot to me and he feels the same about his groomsmen so I think this is a good plan for us.

That is a great idea! How neat to be able to include everyone, very cleaver!

We are not having any MOH/BMs or BM/GMs and this might have made our decision easier since we didn't want to show any favoritism or leave anyone with hard feelings.

Unfortunately since we are getting married in Cuba, the witnesses cannot be blood relatives (majority of our guests) and their documents need to be submitted a month in advance of the ceremony date. It would probably work for other DW countires or non DW settings too and I think it is a wonderful idea! Everyone would remember it for being special and unique too!

Are you planning for a legal ceremony in Cuba? I am just wondering if the 'witnesses' have to be non blood relatives if it is just a symbolic wedding?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
