Bridesmaids Choose Their Own Dresses - Will This Work?

I have heard of more brides doing this.  But most go to a specific store, maybe a David's or Alfred Angelo and pick out the color they want.  Then have the BM pick the style that meets their body type.  Some Bride's say it doesn't matter the length, some specify short or long, that is your choice.

I picked the designer, color, and fabric and then allowed the BMs to pick the dress they liked. I also created a "showroom" on a wedding website with my favorite picks (I picked about 20 dresses) and had the girls let me know which was their 1st and 2nd choices. Worked out very well and each picked their own style with no fuss!

I'm thinking of doing the same mainly because I want them to choose something they are comfortable in and that's in their budget rather than me dictating how much they have to spend. I'm not buying it for them so it's the least I can do. I want them to all wear the same shade but the styles can be all different. My maid of honour is definitely more risque and she has this kind of vintage look whereas my two future sisters in law are more religious and conservative. It would be a nightmare to try and get them to agree on a dress hahaha. 

 

Have you thought about the convertible dresses? I am considering that one but they would need to try them on and see if they like it. Then you can make sure the colors match but everyone can wear it the way they like it the most. They seem to be pretty cool for the summer so that's also a plus.

I think that's the easiest way to make sure the colors match. My color is so hard to find (cornflower) so I thought we could all go to David's bridal and try the styles they have in that color, then each one picks the one they like the most.

Has anyone seen a convertible dress that's NOT made of that jersey stretch material? Or is that kind of a requirement of the fact it's convertible? Lol.... I just think they will be heavy and show sweat if made of jersey material... Or has anyone gotten a swatch from the companies who make these to see if they have a lighter airy feel that would be appropriate for the heat of a DW? I want to do these dresses... But don't want them to look or feel heavy!

I haven't seen any that are made of something else. I think Jessica Bridal has some, so you can go and check them out. I wouldn't think they would be that hot, maybe they have different thickness according to seasons, who knows.

Why don't you offer them (not to say impose) a color and fabric idea, then they see which model suits them best?Your idea about collective shopping is great, so they can decide together what dress are they going to wear?

I' was just in a wedding two months ago where we picked our own dresses. However, a couple of the girls, myself included (there were 9 of us), felt we needed... more stucture, more guidelines to pick a dress. The bride was basically like pick a dress you feel pretty in, in X color and X length. For some that seems sort of easy, but for myself it was more frustration and nerve racking. In the end, I ended finding dresses for 4 of the girls, myself included. It ended up looking super pretty.

 

My dress was not from there, but if you are looking for inexpensive BM dress suggestions in similar colors, a couple of girls found them at target which now has a BM line.

I like the idea of a convertible dress! I was in a wedding last year for my friend who was in Japan, therefore left us to choose our dresses. We had some trouble agreeing but eventually fell in love with a dress. We sent her pictures of our options and she ended up loving it too.

 

Two of my bridesmaid are far away. I've decided the color, fabric, and length. I will be looking this weekend with my other 2 bridesmaids as I have picked out styles as well. I will let them each choose a dress cut that they feel suits them best as long as fabric, color, and length are the same. They will be from Davids bridal to ensure the shades don't vary. The prices aren't bad either!
