I'm wondering if people are doing anything to differentiate their honeymoon time from wedding/celebration time...

My Fiancé would like to just spend a week at the resort which is fine, but if guests make a vacation out of their wedding attendance, I don't know that I want to be hanging out all week with them! I want alone time with my new hubby!

Some ideas that I had was maybe leaving to another resort a couple of days after the wedding to ensure some newlywed alone time or flying out elsewhere (which I don't think he wants to do).

Am I being a little too picky? Thoughts?
Found a thread already on this! This site covers everything :)

We are having our HM at another date outside of our DW. My FI isn't exactly the lie around and do nothing type of guy and spending 2 weeks at the AI would make him crazy (I would love it though! Haha)... Plus we will have our kids with us! Once home we will plan a second trip just for us.... But aren't in a hurry and don't mind waiting a few months before we do it. I think it's totally reasonable wanting to be alone with your FI! Maybe even change resorts for your second week which would just mean a short transfer?

Yea i think I will be talking him into at least changing resorts for a change of scenery and have a solo getaway as husband and wife...without the guests lingering around lol

Changing resorts would be great! I think if you can have some nice quality time together and have enough vacation days, go for it :)

Haha @kmk2016 our FIs are similar. Mine is pretty anti AI and this will be our first minus our site visit. He's super active and gets bored lying on the beach. All of our trips so far have been super active ones. The wedding week will be fine because we'll be surrounded by friends and family to keep him occupied, but if it were just him and me, he'd be so antsy after a few days.

We thought about flying elsewhere after but it's close to Christmas so quite pricey. We've decided to do our honeymoon 4 or 5 months after our wedding, and a Disney World week before :)

My dad offered to pay our second week in Mexico. (Shocked us!!!) We declined and said that it would be hard because I'd have my kids and it wouldn't be a honeymoon. He agreed and is paying for us to go to Vegas at another time.

While in Mexico we plan to spend the next day/night alone without our kids and friends/family just to enjoy the marriage aspect but otherwise it's all in with everyone.

I don't think you are nuts to feel that way. I'd either do one if a few things :Stay longer, change resorts or go at another time :) if it's in the budget of course. The benefit of staying longer whether at your resort or another is you still only pay the airfare once so second week is cheaper.

My FI is kind of the same. More of a backpacking guy. He did Asia last year before we started dating. Getting him to Cuba in March was tough (he proposed there yay!) but I said - hey if we do an AI we can leave and do a lot of excursions etc. We spent a lot of time off the resort which is pricey but it worked for both of us. That said he thinks the concept is a neat idea now and would do it again.

Thanks ladies, It looks like we will be changing resorts :-) My FI doesn't mind spending time at resorts, he just didn't care to get away from the guests - he's super social whereas I enjoy peace and quiet after a while. He agreed it would be nice to go elsewhere for some solo time in case guests do make a vacation out of it. I'm sure we would do a couple of excursions - we like to have a balance of doing absolutely nothing and having a little adventure :)

We're changed resorts after the first week to make sure we get some honeymoon time at a adults-only relaxing resort... it may be our last change to get a kids-free vacation!

I think your guests would think it so romantic that you guys go elsewhere. Maybe you can announce it in a fun way on your weekend itinerary..

We are spending a week in the resort we are getting married inat (to allow time with our guest) and then going to another resort for the HM (which is a complete surprise to me) for 4 days.

Good Luck :)

In our situation our honeymoon will have to wait. It will take about 3 to 5 months after our wedding for me to be allowed to travel outside of the USA and my family will be in Florida for a few days so we will most likely stick around after the wedding day. Once everyone leaves I think we will find somewhere we can just relax for a few days, and then plan a huge big trip for our 1 year anniversary at which point I will be allowed to come and go from the USA as I please.

I'm lucky I'm in love with my best friend
