What's Your Hidden Cost(S) So Far?

Recommended Posts

The costs definitely do add up quick.

We ended up choosing the private dinner which is $60 a person so for the 90 people we have it becomes more than we had originally thought. Flowers we are going to order are going to cost us somewhere between $1000-1500 (centerpieces, aisle and gazebo decorations). We ordered our own napkins just to give the tables some colour other than white, which wasn't much. Then little things like hair and make up and of course photographer we are flying down. Then there is the actual wedding package cost (approx. $1500)

The conversion is definitely an issue. Is there any way to negotiate the prices with them once down there?

Not sure where you are getting married but usually no. But many brides factors in costs like decor and decide to bring their own linens/centrepieces and only pay a small set up fee.

I loved that our wedding package price was quite low like yours, as it allowed us to custom design our day perfectly to our taste. So far, thanks to the research here on btw before finalizing our resort and plans.... There haven't been any real surprise costs... Sure my tastes have me having to cut some things and DIY others, but nothing has come as a total surprise to my budget. I'm sure there will be a few... But thanks to the brides here i can hopefully plan ahead!

Check with your resort. A recent Canadian bride at my resort said they charged her on pesos so it was a direct conversion to Canadian. No silly USD conversion were we'd lose a tonne!!! I'm crossing my fingers it works the same for me!

Thanks! yeah I will ask them, it would be nice to save somehow.

I hate myself for continuously looking for ideas and better stuff... I get over excited and want to do so much more than I have the budget for. definitely need to take it easy and compromise as you said hehe!

I get it 100%. Now that I have most purchased and am 4 months out I keep looking to pass time lol It's killing me. I really want to do tanks for the wedding party -- but honestly it's probably ok if I only get one for myself but I feel bad lol. Otherwise no more!!!

This is totally how I feel I should be rich to have the wedding I want haha. But at the end of the day I'm happy with the compromises I'm making and I don't even miss things that I decided I couldn't afford. I just get caught up in the moment and start dreaming and get carried away hahah

@@Ellia123 I would negotiate upfront anything you might think it negotiable...specially services there are negotiable...DJ service, set up or anything that includes labor I think could be negotiable. As far as negotiating goods it will depend on what you want to negotiate BUT I would say.."EVERYTHING IS NEGOTIABLE" just please do it upfront and NO when you get there because that might upset people.

  • 2 weeks later...

I got a question for you ladies:

who or which services will you tip for your wedding?

TIPPING might be a big one (hidden cost) because if you don't plan it, it can end up in the heat of the moment ( being happy on your wedding day and overly excited) and throwing cash like never before.

I think I am planning a budget for tips and if I don't use it ..cool. although I feel like in Mexico, Dominica Rep., etc....EVERYONE expects a tip. All inclusives claim that you do not need, BUT because these are weddings and they "do a bit more" they might expect...

I always tip at an AI, but not for every single drink, etc.    But with respect to the wedding I have been working on a list and numbers for what we want to do and think is appropriate.  Everyone is different so it's tough to just do what everyone else is!  Some people tip everyone, and some only tip the coordinator, photographer, etc. It's tough.

I am thinking the coordinator, the wait and bar staff, and the set up/tear down people.  Possibly the mariachi, but I am not sure yet.  I will also tip the photographer after we sit down and see the pictures together.  I will of course tip at the spa.

How much? have no idea!!!

I had my friends who have been to DW ask their friends who they tipped.  2 said just the WC, and the other just tipped the photographer!  That didn't get me far! ha!

ugh I think literally everything I have planned has an automatic 15-18% tip attached. which I mean I planned to tip anyways, but I don't like mandatory fees

If you are already paying 15-18% on a specific service, I personally wouldn't tip over and above that, unless someone was phenomenal. Seems unfair to have to tip twice.  Just my thoughts.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
