What's Your Hidden Cost(S) So Far?

Recommended Posts

@@Sabes44 very good that you got a good option for the room and the most important thing is that you love it and will enjoy all the benefits. my resort offers room upgrade but they do not sat yet anything, base on "availability"

ceremony: comes with 24 free chairs after that $15 each

free cocktail for up to 40 after that $10 each

if 15 rooms are booked, free up to 40 people $10 after that

semi private dinner: free up to 40, $25 after that.

I think that what makes me upset is that the resort tries to nickel and dime you when you are bringing thousands of dollars in business, and what is horrible about my resort is the outrageous vendor fee...I recommend to anyone to look at the vendors that your resort offers because if you dont like that ...it comes to two options: use who you dont want OR pay what you dont want and bring who you want...that drives me crazy.

That was one reason why I chose my resort, because their packages had pretty much everything I wanted and wouldn't have to add much extras.  Their outside vendor fee is $500 which is a bit steep, so I will probably end up using their photographer.  Since we are doing our legal ceremony here the weekend before and have a photographer in the group, I think we will have plenty of pictures to choose from.

I found out because we upgraded to the private location - which in turn includes NOONE for free - that price we are paying for the dinner includes it all (extra chairs, toast, appetizers, etc.) So I feel relieved about that.

Had we have stuck for the ala carte that was in the package we would have paid extra for all of it.

  • 4 weeks later...

Im so frustrated with the cost of renting the stereo system, bringing my own centerpieces, etc

What are you thinking for your centerpieces? I was told we can't rent them either so I found beachy stuff that works with my theme that's not breakable. Other than the flowers I splurged on each table is under $7-8 each

I thought of a lantern, a couple fake flowers, and a few candles around this- all i would bring from home, but my WC said that they were going to charge a few just to bring my own stuff ! (not sure what the cost is yet, but that is crazy)

Not sure where you are getting married but a set up fee is pretty common. I don't mind paying a service fee locally to the staff who takes all my DIY and personal decor items and set them up for me so that my vision is realized. I'm planning on bringing the bulk of my decor with me, and ordering some of the larger items like a chandelier and Chivari chairs for my reception. The cost to have them set up all the decor is a real bargain compared to renting everything.

true, what is your cost for setting up the centerpieces, etc? I guess i am just at my breaking point because I feel like my resort's charges are high and everywhere I turn there is another cost. I just don't want to be charged for everything little thing. I don't know the cost yet, but not sure what would be fair.

Mine charges $250 maximum fee for all decor set up at reception and ceremony regardless of how much you are getting them to do. I have them hanging a lot of drapery and set up is extensive so this isn't too bad.... At my resort I have been told that if you don't have much to set up, it's negotiated with onsite team and so I'm waiting until arrival to negotiate this cost but I'm totally fine with $250. I did a site visit and met my onsite WC who confirmed everything I learned on these boards regarding pricing so I'm prepared.

I can see if you bring oodles of stuff Forsure. I didn't read this anywhere in mine and I've went thru it numerous times to ensure I didn't miss something big. I'll keep it in the back of my mind just incase and won't be caught off guard. I have just the basic stuff nothing over the top so would also negotiate if need be.

Was yours clearly listed in the price list / contract?

It's tough cause I read all I've been provided by the resort but then you hear things on here so I email and get clarification. Usually the way I read it to be was true but you second guess yourself as each place is so different and things can be interpreted so differently too

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
