Sunset In Cancun

Hello!

 

This is a question for those that have seen the sunset in Cancun. We are getting married in December, and the ceremony is scheduled to begin at 5pm (cocktail hour is 4-5). According to various sources, we have been notified that the sun should set at around 5-5:15pm then. Additionally, we were told that when the sun sets in Cancun, it's not a gradual scenic event, but rather a sudden change in the color of the sky. I am wondering what color the sky would be at sunset. Does it get pitch black right away or does the sky gradually get dark but still gives enough light to see the surroundings for a little while. I am thinking to move the ceremony time to 4pm instead of 5 (cocktail hour 3-4), but if I do this then I would not be able to have fireworks immediately following the ceremony as I had initially planned. So it's a tough decision. On the other hand though, if we have the ceremony when it is still light out the pictures may come out a bit nicer and the guests could enjoy the rooftop view from the reception for a short period of time (whereas if we go up there after 5:30 as we are currently scheduled, if the sky is totally black then, they will not see the view at all).

 

Please advise.

Curious to hear other people's experiences.  I am marrying in the Mayan, but I did a google search and heard they lose sun around 530pm, so I scheduled my ceremony at 3:30pm for January, so all that and our pictures are done before we lose the sun.   Good luck!

Our wedding is in December as well. I think 4pm would be lovely, but I'd also make sure to do first look and bridal pics before that. I think 5pm is doable only if you make sure to do all of your pics before - and also if you don't mind it getting dark quickly before. The hour before sunset is often called the golden hour for photographers - so you want to make sure you get nice pics of you and your groom then

 

Are you talking about the real in the sky fireworks, the ground fireworks that go off around your feet? If it's the latter, I don't see it being an issue to still have them go off after the ceremony. If it's the in the sky ones, maybe you can get them to do them later after your entrance or first dance?

\Thanks, that was the one I googled too when I looked into it. I am happy with our 3:30pm time frame, as lets be honest -- nothing starts on time hehehe

We had a 4pm wedding in November, and I wish we'd started earlier. The light goes FAST at sunset, and we lost it while doing our couples pictures. you won't have much sun light at all at a 5pm ceremony. Remember that Cancun/RM is on the EAST coast, so the sun is setting behind the beach and over the mangroves.

I recommend you to do your ceremony 3 hours before sunset, this way you will have great colours in the pictures, as well as different shape of light for the family session and Bride and Groom session as well, more important, enough time in case something delays and It happens often.

 

Sunset is on land side, so It is likely hard to have a great one during your ceremony, I would secure the bride and Groom shoots with a great sunset than a ceremony which is hard to do

Hello! We decided to have our cocktail hour at 3, ceremony at 4, reception at 4:30/5. We will make sure to have all of our photos done before 3pm so I think we will be fine (fingers crossed).

You will lose the light very quickly. I totally agree with the other comments recommending that you change times if at all possible, or have all photos done by 5. The time changes too in late October so it's the same idea as putting the time change into effect at home. It will get dark quite rapidly.

Glad I saw this. I'm getting married in December too at 5pm but I think I'll stick to it. I want to do pics before hand and I don't mind the dark for the ceremony, planning lots of candles and looking into a standing chandelier. So, fingers crossed it's all ok with a fast sunset
