Hey! I'm also new to this site, I'm so glad I came across it in my desperate search for guidance! I recently got engaged while on vacation in Dominican Republic and am now trying to plan this wedding! We would love to do a destination wedding summer 2015, most likely July.  I'm in search of a resort - we've been looking in Riviera Maya - Dreams Riviera, Excellence Riviera Cancun, The Royal Playa del Carmen, and a couple more. I will be looking into the topics to get feedback from those who have experience with a destination wedding in Mexico! Hope to find a little support/guidance here!:-)

We are going with Excellence Riviera Cancun and I looked into all of them in that area!!

Awesome! What's your planning experience like so far?

I have ruled out Dreams because we would like adults only. I have reached out to Excellence, The Royal, Valentin, and Secrets Capri. Too many?? Haha, I think we are leaning towards Valentin but I will see if I hear back from the others.

What made you choose Excellence?

So far so good!  I am an event planner and used to do weddings and I really wanted mine to be simple.  That was one of the main reasons why we chose a destination wedding, was to make it simple, easier, less stress and to reduce costs.

For us we wanted a bigger adults only resort.  We had just come back from Sandals in St. Lucia and had stayed at the smallest resort there, which was perfect for just to 2 of us, but we had visited the other 2 larger resorts.  Which was more of the vibe we wanted for our wedding and guests.  That was appealing about Excellence and I liked their wedding packages better.  I didn't want to have to add much in decor, we just wanted the beach and background to be our decor.  At some of the resorts we would have to add so much to the package, it wasn't as cost effective nor what I even wanted.  Oh and the 2 story, terrace ocean view room also pushed me over the edge!

I looked at almost every resort in that area.  The reviews also helped me along with pictures and the beach.  Some of the places had a rocky beach which I don't care for.  After 2 months of my own research I got a TA who also helped me and with her help I narrowed it down to 5 and then 3 choices, but for some reason Excellence was always my first choice.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
