El Velo Photography Is The Best Photographer In Costa Rica!

As a bride planning my wedding from Florida, I could only pick a photographer based on the pictures they had posted and hope for the best. Choosing El Velo was the BEST decision I made during the entire wedding planning process. For months Stephanie and Andrea spoke with me and eased my fears about the wedding, the price of photography/video, and the weather that could impact the wedding. I probably crossed into bridezilla territory more than once, and they still handled every situation so nicely and with the most professionalism I could have asked for. For example: Literally five days before we left to go to Costa Rica I checked the weather and panicked- it called for 80% rain on the day of my wedding. Andrea tried her best to calm me, and then Juan Carlos, the photographer, called to reassure me that no matter what the weather he would get amazing photos. They were so amazingly nice and scrambled to accommodate a new wedding day that had less of a chance of rain on very last minute notice. Even with all of this craziness it still rained on my wedding day and as Juan Carlos said, he got wonderful photos. I could never have asked for better people to work with.

Juan Carlos is an extremely gifted photographer and was AMAZING to work with. He made me feel very comfortable and took every picture I recommended along with many more. He was wonderful with my entire wedding party before the wedding, and managed to stay to the side while getting great photos at the reception. After the wedding, he sent a sneak peek slideshow to me within a week, which was SO nice considering I have friends that didn't see any pictures for months when they got married. I was absolutely floored-These pictures made me look like a supermodel- the man seriously has a gift. I have never ever looked better and unless he's the photographer, I may never look that good in a picture again.

From one bride to another- If you are looking for a photographer in Costa Rica, don't even consider anyone else. I am so thankful to the entire El Velo team and would recommend them, especially Juan Carlos, to anyone getting married. They are very reasonably priced (although after seeing the pictures I would have paid 3X the amount I did, that's how amazing they are!), so professional, and their work will leave you with unbelievable memories of your special day. You will LOVE them!

El Velo definitely was a great company to work with and JC was a great photographer.

I hired El Velo for my wedding this past February and all the photos turned out fantastic.

The wedding website was ready by the time we got back from the honeymoon. The actual DVD of all the photos came in a couple of months later.

I just logged in again to this site to check if other brides are having issues like me. I hired them for the entire package including video and so far... 7 months after our wedding, the video is still not ready. Can't really do anything about it as we paid for everything already but I'm just wondering if anyone out there is having issues as well.

I guess my word of precaution is to have clearer terms on the contract as to when they will give you the finished product, instead of relying on the stated "minimums". Or just hire them for the photos I guess.

Ohh wow @@larapanget that's not good. That's entirely too long. Have they indicated why it's taking so long to complete the video?

just that they had a larger volume of weddings than they anticipated.

it's a good thing i wasn't planning on sharing everything right away with those who were not able to attend.. but still. 3 months after the stated minimum is a bit much. i did save money though since we originally wanted jonathan yonkers, but his prices are steep. i guess this is the trade off. :)

Thank you @@larapanget. I will keep this in mind. I was speaking with them regarding my wedding in April. I know that's a busy time as well and I don't want to end up in the same boat. If I know going in that it will take 7 months to receive that's one thing but they should give a reasonable timeframe.

yup. agree on a timeframe not just a minimum.

i just posted a new topic about my wedding and posted some photos so you can see some of their work. They were pretty good though so my experience has been good except the waiting part. :P

  • 2 weeks later...

so.... the video is still not ready. i'm guessing by the time i get it, it'll be 8 MONTHS after my wedding.

they said it should have been mailed last week at the latest. i emailed them today and they said it will be mailed this week.

i asked if they can at least upload it online so i can download/view but they won't. not even a tiny bit of effort.

you've been warned.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
