Plannig A Wedding And Hotel Isn't Even Opened

I would be careful even with a year to go. I  started negotiating with a hotel and got a great quote then all communication just stopped and I found out it was being re-branded. When I finally got in touch with someone again, nothing was going to be honored from the previous written quotes! A it of a different story I know, but things change all the time even with an very upscale brand (like this one was).

I'm in a similar position with the Grand Sunset Princess.  They are opening up a brand new hotel next door called the Platinum All suites Adults only complex.  We love the GSP and were considering doing our wedding at the new hotel.  A few things that are making us think it over is that they do not even have the wedding locations for me to start planning yet, they don't have the reception areas decided etc etc and they do not have any packages printed yet.  I am having a june''15 wedding and these things need to be decided soon so we may just have the wedding at the GSP section and maybe honeymoon in the new area.

It's too bad too because we wanted to experience the new area but I am also worried about the kinks etc etc and to bring 30  or more ppl to a hotel that is new to us and also it is very new to the staff as well makes me nervous.

All the best and keep us posted on how it goes!

You're really brave, I'd have too much anxiety over that one! I would just be sure to have everything in writing, and a lot of signed contracts. Good news is though that because you've booked before they opened, hopefully your wedding rates will be lower than if you booked later on :)

Hi. I just wondered how you heard about the new section? Is it actually part of the Grand Sunset because they do already have an adults only section - Yucatan something.

Any details would be great! Thanks!!

Hi!

We visited GSP last year and stayed in the Platinum suite Adults only section and it was amazing. We loved it so much that we went once in June and retuned again in September. The staff gave us a heads up about the new hotel at that time. Since we had made friends with them they were explaining the concept and it sounded awesome.

Their website is up: yucatanplatinumsuites.com

It officially opens this September 2014. Looks stunning!

Oh and yes, they did have the adult section in the GSP but they are rebranding to be more kid friendly so the suites that once were adult only are not family suites.

Woops - the suites that once were adult are *now family suites.

I hope my post didn't irritate or annoy you - that certainly wasn't my intention. I'm only trying to give you the perspective of someone who works in the industry.

Not trying to convince you to do otherwise, but just keep in mind that many Hyatt properties are franchises and I am guessing, since Playa is managing this property, that this Hyatt is one of them. It could very well be an amazing, amazing property but when you're dealing with franchises, I've noticed there is often inconsistency. I just wouldn't use reviews of other Hyatts as a basis as to how good this one will be. I would find out if this is a new build or a refurbishment. I would also try to stay there beforehand if you can.

Hi Ladies

Sometimes life gets in the way of wedding planning. We had to put the wedding on hold because we have had 2 children and bought and sold our home and, and, and...... lol.

We are starting over again, still planning on Jamaica but have decided on sensatori negril on Oct 28th 2017. Finally looking forward to this journey!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
