After a year and a half of planning we finally booked our date for Aug 13, 2015. We chose August because it's a time of the year when most of my friends can have off and also because it was easier to go to a super nice hotel for a bit less. Now I'm second guessing myself that it will be too hot, I'm afraid of hurricanes, etc. I really need to stop with the over thinking and second-guessing. I just need someone to tell me that it will all be ok haha.

I was in Jamaica during hurricaine season. We actually went in late Sept/early Oct and we actually had a hurricaine while we were there. But don't worry because resorts know how to handle these situations. I was a little worried but they handled everything very well. There were weddings taking place that day and they just pushed them to another day. People there can accommodate for these things happening and they will have everything under control. Don't worry because you have no control over any of that anyway. Your date is booked now so just go with the flo. I am better at giving advice than taking it...lol I freak out and over think about things too. But my FI says to me that I freak out over things I have no control over.

There is always something. I booked my wedding for April and regardless I know it's going to be way hotter than I would want on my wedding day in a dress with trying to keep makeup from running down my face.

All these things that happen people tend to deal with it quite nicely and everything in the end ends up turning out perfect.

I have stressed over a lot so far and I haven't even started...lol

Yeah I need to chill and stop freaking out over things I can't control. Maybe I should have picked a different date? but too late now because the save the dates are out hahah. I also can never make up my mind about anything. I would be choosing a date until the day I die if I could haha.

We just changed our wedding date from May 16 to April 16 because of the drama associated with hurricane seasons as well

Oh no! That's really a shame that you changed your date! Hurrican season doesn't start until June, and it's actually quite rare for them to hit that early in the season.

The peak time is generally August and September with sometimes going into early to mid-October. Of course there can be storms in July but again, they aren't that frequent.

As long as you know in advance and are prepared for the fact that it's going to be very hot! Then at least you'll be able to manage. The good thing is last year was about the quietest hurricane season in about 50 years, and they're predicting that this year will be the same. As long as we have an El Nino then it cuts the hurricanes in the Atlantic due to wind shear. So keep fingers crossed!!  And @@kcole123 is right. The resorts are well prepared to deal with them if one does come along. Depending on how much notice there is, which usually they have a pretty good idea, if it's too close to your wedding the airlines just won't go. They'll cancel flights but I've heard where they allow you to rebook with no penalties and so on.

All you can do is go with it! Hey - it would give you a wedding to remember!! lol Something to tell the grandchildren!!  It will all be fine.

true! It would be really too bad because the fiance really wanted a DW because of the unpredictable weather where we live. We bought insurance anyway and asked people to do the same. I'm really hoping that luck will be on our side, crossing fingers. At this point I guess it's not useful to worry when we're so far away from the date. Always easier said than done! haha

Well our travel agent was having trouble finding anything at the list of destinations we had and she kept coming back with only packages from the standard places like Dominican Republic, Mexico, Cuba and Jamaica... and to be honest with you, those 4 countries are at the bottom of my list.

I feel they are all so played out and I can't even begin to tell you just how many weddings I've been to Punta Cana...

We wanted a little more of an exotic island so I figured I would rather change the date and be married somewhere I truly love and want to be at than to settle with a destination I deep down didn't really want to be at.

So The change occured more cuz we couldn't get packages (from Toronto) in May that catered to what we really wanted.

I'm sure it will all be okay in the end.  I'm not too sure about your destination, but I heard that when it comes to hurricanes they are more likely to happen in September and October.  My fiance and I are planning a September wedding date and I have the same concerns you do.  As far as I know destinations that are at risk of hurricanes have really good procedures to deal with them.  I'm planning to get married in Cuba and I read that tourists are given high priority during hurricane evacuation procedures.  I took comfort in knowing that our interest was being thought of and the situation will be dealt with by people who have been extensively trained to deal with hurricanes.

I also worry about the heat too.  I know that time of the year can be very humid.  We chose September because it seemed to be most convenient for our friends and family.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
