They definitely took a while to respond to me at first and I had quite the freak out about it, but Alejandra has been great now and responds very quickly when I have questions. I am also doing the gazebo for my ceremony and it is definitely a rooftop location that overlooks the beach. I am honestly not sure how private the actual location is...hopefully it's at least semi-blocked off or out of the major traffic.

Let me know if you decide to get married here! I'd love another bride to bounce ideas off of, since there are not alot of brides writing about this resort!!!

I get married Nov 16th. Alejandra has been great. We are also using the wedding gazebo for the ceremony. Cocktail hour and our reception will also be setup in that area on the deck area. The only surprise I've had is having to add lighting. The resort is not well enough lit up at night. I was really bummed I had to remove flowers I had added to the gazebo for lights during the reception. Given the prices to rent most things I will be bringing my own charger plates, table runners, votives etc. our plan is to have a fully traditional wedding and reception but with the hopes of it feeling like a family vacation. We only have 27 guests attending so I'm hoping to pull together some last minute details. Time goes by to fast so I suggest starting early w planning.

As far as decorations go for your reception...what all are you using? I know you said you are bringing quite a few things with you, but are you using anything from the resort or bringing it all? What lighting did you decide to use?

Hi ladies! So it's a official I will be a Secrets Playa Mujeres Bride!!! I was finally able to book my date 11/5/16 I know a long time from now :-( does anyone know if Claudia still works there? I have only been in communication with Alejandra via email and the communication is pretty delayed. Takes about a week for a response.

Yes I have made the plunge and am also going with the Gazebo. Thank you for your description. It's so exciting to find other brides. Have you made any decoration ideas? I'd also like to see what reception locations are available. I wonder if you can choose anywhere along the pool or are limited to the area by the gazebo

I am having my reception at the infinity pool which drops off into an ocean view. The couple of pictures I have seen of it look GORGEOUS! But yes the lighting is the major bummer here as none of the outdoor locations have good lighting and all of their lighting options are pretty pricey!

Hi HCurtis,

We are bringing gold charger plates [bought from BB&B for $50 vs renting for 6-9 each], table runners [vs renting for $35 and up], votives with LED lights [never got a rent quote], menu/name card [they print generic menus for free but i wanted something unique and special], bride/groom chair signs [renting is overpriced], decor table stuff [frames, anchors, message in a bottle sign in, gold accents]  that ties back into my theme. I also am bringing welcome bags for the guests.

Side note- I am renting glass hurricanes from the resort for $7 each because i feel like it would be a pain to travel with. I am reusing the bridal bouquets for centerpieces.

The lighting issue- I had to add lights because the resort is not bright enough for evening photos. I am adding a 20 light strand of lanterns for $300.00. You can bring your own lights but there is a stringing fee and again traveling with such fragile bulbs is not very appealing to me. I would have to get there and half be broken. What bothers me in the video posted to this thread is it looks like only some of the lights were actually working. You spend so much money on a photographer that it would be a bummer if your photos were not as good because of lighting.

Hi Tarah,

Do you know how much the stringing fee is? Is this in addition to the fee charged for setting up home brought decorations? Does anyone know how much that fee is?

Did any brides receive a planning guide or budget planner where you can select what you want after the wedding date was confirmed? I just confirmed my date but haven't received any planning guides just curious if anyone else received anything and if possible could you please share?

Hi brides,

Just an FYI, my reception was indoors due to "super heavy wind".  What I later found out was ACTUALLY was a cinco de mayo party that I was not told about by my coordinator.  I was supposed to be by the gazebo, or infinity terrace I think?  When you see the pictures of the resort the infinity terrace is literally right by the main pool, and you cannot see the ocean because it is dark, but there is soft lighting.  In my opinion the best place would be the garden or the sugar terrace (by gazebo I believe).

The indoor option was not nice (very dated ugly colorful carpet).  Luckily my guests are drinkers and love to dance and party haha.   We made the most of it, but I did cry when I saw the ONLY option for an indoor reception was this hideous room.  I wish I would have fought for a tent or something to happen, but to be honest they weren't going to accommodate my wishes without a major cost to me!  They led me believe the reason for the move indoors was the wind, but I clearly saw the fiesta happening for resort guests RIGHT where my wedding was going to be.

My point is, make sure you ask if there are any resort events happening on the same day as your wedding because that will take precedent and they will lie to you!  However my guests made the most of it and Claudia made it beautiful, it just wasn't my dream reception in Mexico.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
