Starting To Plan...help!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! I'm newly engaged and just starting to plan my destination wedding.  My fiance and I had gone on vacation to DR previously and LOVED it so we are positive that we want to have our wedding there.  We also would like to set a date sometime in May of 2015.  However, that is about as far as we have gotten.  We talked to a travel agent but I did not feel that the woman really had suggestions on resorts for us.  It was more info on what happens once we pick a place.  I have searched this site and found multiple places I like.  We are looking at having a group of 30-40 people (including children).  We would like a resort that is somewhere between a "party" resort and a nice quiet relaxing one.  We also would like a combination of an elegant resort but with a lot of nature (palm trees, small ponds, birds, etc).  I'm hoping to get suggestions from past brides or hear from currently books brides on how they made their decisions.

Thanks so much!!!

Congrats and welcome to the site. I don't know anything about the DR but I know there are a lot of brides here that have booked their wedding for that location. Definitely search the resort reviews section and the forums and do some reading. Past and present brides are more than willing to share tips and advice and reviews of resorts from brides that have been to a location is as good a way as any to check out resorts.

Good luck and happy planning!

@@mrsmarrero2015!  Congrats at your upcoming wedding!  I was very overwhelmed also with trying to chose a resort.  I also started with a travel agent who did not work out.  I am getting married May of 2015 at Now Larimar after much research.  I am using Patty Jordan at Wright Travel Agency as my travel agent, and she has been absolutely amazing to work with!  She responds very quickly and is so informative.  I would highly recommended looking into her!  May be worth it for you to contact her!  Happy planning.

Congratulations!  My advice is to take a lot of time reading the forum, and go to the Planning threads as well.  Lots of good advice from brides, and it'll help you get ideas for what you want to do.  There are brides on here who DIY'd everything, and others who bought it all.  Sit down and create a timeline/budget, and see what you want to do!

I'm loving the personalization of some DIY (do it yourself) in my wedding - I've started a planning thread with the intent to keep myself accountable!  I have the link in my profile if it helps :)

Enjoy yourself!!

I narrowed down the resorts by looking at photographers websites.  I would scroll through a lot of the photos from recent weddings to find a resort that looked like somewhere I would want to get married.

I am booked at Melia Caribe Tropical in DR. I chose it because the grounds look absouloutly beautiful and they over a family friendly plus there is a section there for adults only too. This was the best of both worlds for us because we originally wanted adults only but people in our family wanted to bring there kids. So if some people want, if they aren't bringing kids, they can stay in the adults only section. I have never been to this resort or have never been to DR, but I did a lot of research and this one came up with a lot of the things I was looking for and the price was lower than a lot of others I have researched.

Have a look and let me know what you think of it.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
