Hello everybody I have a little bit of a dilemma – how many of you are getting married in the Dominican Republic? I would really love to get married there but I am also thinking about getting my marriage license here in the US and then going to DR for a Vowel renewal. But I donâ€t know what to do Iâ€m so confused.

Any help would be appreciated

We are gettign married in the DR in April, but signing the legal documents beforehand -- becasue it is easier AND a lot less expensive.

There are several threads on here about Vow Renewals and about DR marriages that should help you out a ton, but if there is anything else I can help answer, just let me know!

We are doing the legal stuff here before going to mexico for a ceremony. I like the idea of 2 wedding days. one will be just about us. The other will be a celebration with everyone. We will also be saving about $1,000 to do it this way & get to have the ceremony done the way we want. A lot of people have done the legal ceremony away & said it was fine.

There are many threads on the forum about deciding what to do. They helped me make my decision. Most people decide not to tell everyone incase it ruins to magic for some people. Those who I have told agree that's what we should do.

You guys are awesome... yes if i do all of the legality in the US it will be cheaper and then i would just do the renewal of vows in DR... i will look at other post... i am leaning toward legalizing it in the US and making it a more intimate occation for me and him...

when should i do this? we are getting married in December 5th of 08 should we do it december 5th of 07? pinkie.gif

Depends on what you want. I wouldn't want to be legally married a whole year & not tell anyone. We plan on doing it the week before we leave. You do end up with a different date on your certificate. but even if we did it legally in mexico on a saturday, the date would be friday's.

I wouldn't do it a whole year ahead of time. The next year wouldn't seem like a wedding to me. The anniversary of our first date is May 13, and we got engaged a year later on June 13 -- so we're signing the legal paperwork on April 13 ... although our DR ceremony is April 19. We are just having a notary friend witness us signing hte marriage license and not doing any type of ceremony until the DR.

I wouldn't wait that long either, it might affect the price of your DR wedding. i know at our resort, for a 'free' symbolic ceremony, and to get the honeymoon suite price, you have to be married within 2 months I think.

something to thnk about for sure. Also, your guests probably won't think it so critical to go if it was a whole year prior.

My friend got married in DR 2 years ago and she had no problems with it. Actually, 2 of my friends got married there the same year. We are Canadian, so it might be different, but it did not cost them much at all, they did not even need to get the documents translated because the Canadian consulate in the DR approved them. So, it was really simple for them, they just had to wait for the documents to come back from the DR and then file them at home.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
