We have only had 2-3 people complain. One was my fiancé a dad but he sucked it up. The other we didn't really want there anyways lol. She complained that she's been to Mexico before and it wasn't $1500. Well she went 5+ years ago and pricing does change. Sigh. But then she goes out and does xyz. You could have afforded it if you made an effort. Generally I don't mind the no's but it's these ones that get under your skin. Ultimately it's your day and you need to be happy. I find it's a compromise too, can be a stressful one because you don't want to price your guests out of coming.

my fiance sister encouraged for us to have a destination wedding..so now that we booked it she isn't coming because she says she can't afford it which is BS.... she says we chose this knowing she isn't coming and we are selfish for thinking of ourselves....like WTF!

I had a friend like that. I was looking at may and January. She is like 'why choose may the weather is getting nice here, people want to go when it's cold'. So she said she preferred January. Anyways in the end we chose January (not for her mind you) and she declines haha. Can't please them

All.

  • 1 month later...

I went with a resort, Secrets Maroma Beach, that I'm sure a lot of people think I to expensive. I'm not a selfish person but I feel this wedding is one time I should indulge!

I don't wan to have any regrets about choosing something to make my guests happy instead of myself an my fiancé happy.

I actually had my father tell me that he's disappointed and it's not all about me. I was shocked that this was coming from my dad! lol

We have gone through with it and booked - he still hasn't RSVPd and doesn't talk about it. So we don't bring it up either. If he comes he comes, if not, his loss!

I started hearing the "selfish" statement last year and it makes my skin crawl. Selfish because we want to spend a week instead of one day with you? Selfish because we didn't want one night to cost more than that wedding week? Selfish because we want to make our commitment to one another in the place we love and feel most relaxed and comfortable? Yup, that's me. I'm selfish.

We actually have not really heard any complaints about a destination wedding (although I am sure there are some!) We have just told people we would love for them to come to our wedding, and it would be a great vaca for them too…but if they don't want to come or it is too expensive we completely understand. Everyone who really wants to go is coming, and it seems happy to get a mini vaca for themselves too!

People who complain to the bride and groom about destination weddings is incredibly selfish and it's tacky. Rude. We have gotten quite a few from people about our DW. I finally learned to ignore it and say "I'm sorry you feel that way. If you can't make it, we understand. We will miss you." I learned that in the end, it's OUR wedding and we will have fun. If they can't make it or not.

I heard all the complaints and comments before my wedding but hey those same people were raving about the wedding and can't wait to book a reunion trip. lol I would do my DW all over again.  Stay strong girls!!

People who really want to be there will do their best to come and others oh well they should just decline nicely and leave it at that.  They can see all the awesome pics afterwards.  :D

My family has complained non-stop, and I've made changes/sacrifices due to this. I wanted my wedding to be in Punta Cana, but my parents REFUSED to agree to fly. Said they wouldn't get on a plane for anything. So since I didn't want my parents to miss my wedding, I decided to do a cruise wedding instead. It's a 7hr drive for us to the port of NY for the cruise so they don't have to fly. And they are STILL complaining, now he's saying he doesn't want to go on the ship! How are people handling this stuff??!!

We've all been thru the complaints and the drama. People you'd never thought it would come from in a million years. I've shed many tears! What the ladies will all tell you is that it's your day and you need to do what's best for you and fiancé. What you want for your wedding. At the end of the day it's for you two to marry and that's all that matters. You will never ever please everyone!

Good luck.

Thanks for the encouragement! We finally are seeing it differently. We just said today, "we will get married there on that date no matter what. No matter if it's just us, or all our family/friends are there". I'm trying to not stress on it, but it's hard!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
