Are You Changing Your Last Name, Hyphenating, Or Keeping Your Name

Recommended Posts

My Mother's line has four daughters. If we all change our last names, there goes our line.

This was the case for a close friend of mine as well. In one of the most touching tributes to his future in laws, her fiancé took HER last name to carry the line forward with their kids. Her parents were sooo touched- and it was seriously one of the most amazing parts of the wedding. It showed how truly great this man was... And he has proudly carried her last name for over a decade now, along of course with their 3 kids... 2 of which are boys. The name will carry on due to a totally unorthodox gesture.

I am an only daughter and am choosing to keep my last name but add on my husband to be's last name. I can't wait to be a part of his family but just couldn't let go of my family's last name!!!

I am not changing my last name at all... I'm Laotian and it is very important to me to have that as my cultural identity

That was part of my reason for wanting to hyphenate.  I wanted to try to keep a part of my cultural identity.  I was raised muslim and my parents are from South America, but I was born and raised in Canada.  I want my future children to know about my culture and their heritage.

I'm so excited to see all these responses and read everyone's perspective on the issue whether it's your first or second marriage.  I feel really lucky to have a fiancee that wants this decision to be my own decision.

Keeping mine. My last name is unique and I dislike the idea of my established identity “disappearing” simply because I’m getting married.

My FH isn’t 100% on board with my decision but thankfully my entire family is backing me up!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
