The Royal Playa Del Carmen- March 2016

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!!

My fiance and I are recently engaged and are thinking of doing our wedding at the Royal in march of 2016.  I know it is almost two years away but I am trying to get the planning process going.  We stayed at the Royal in march of 2013 and fell in love with the hotel!!!  This is for all brides who chose to do a destination wedding, what made you choose to do a destination wedding and what did you guys like about it?  Also, was pricing an issue for some guests that you invited?  I really would like to get some insight and some idea of where I should start with my wedding planning.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Congrats and welcome to the site! You'll definitely find a ton of information here that should help you with your planning.

You're definitely a long way out. Generally, once you book your date with the resort, you won't here much from the wedding coordinator until a couple of months before your wedding. A lot of resorts won't even book your date until a year to 18 months out, so if you've been able to book your date already, you're lucky! They will probably send you some intiial info then your contact will be minimal until a few months before just because of all the other weddings they're busy with. Each one in turn.

Good luck and happy planning!

If you will not regret having a wedding with mst likely less than 80 people destination is the way to g. I will be getting married this June at the royal. We have 51 guests and super excited. Yes, there's guest that could. It afford it and we wish they could join us but we accepted it N know a beach wedding in Mexico is our dream. I am also having a gathering with family who could not join us to show photos. And as corny as it sounds I will wear my dress and take photos with those who weren't there on the big day ;)

Hola and happy planning in advance! The Royal Playa del Carmen is a terrific venue and they have a great wedding coordination staff. Definitely hook up with a coordinator, it may be a long way away but the time will go quickly!

Thought I would share some of our recent photos from Royal Playa del Carmen weddings, hope they inspire!

The royal is a resort that we were going to look at. I think I just forgot about it and moved forward with Palace. We chose to have a DW because we went to Playa in December and just kept saying how we would love to experience a vacation in paradise with our family and friends. When we got engaged in May, a destination wedding wasnt even a question. We both knew what we wanted so it was perfect. We know there will be some cons by not having everyone attend, but we're okay with that. We want an experience not an expensive party for 4 hours. Also, we chose Mexico because we're familiar with it and already planned to vacation there in September to site visit instead of booking in a country we never seen before. We are planning to honeymoon in another country though for a change in scenery, maybe jamaica or aruba. This is one decision where we decided to put our foot down and are doing what makes us happy not anyone else. Everyone with opinions had their wedding already or will be able to plan their own. We get people have to pay for this, but it's a vacation after all. Our wedding will be one day and I don't plan on booking the guests with a bunch of wedding relates activities. This is all for fun.

I think it's great that you have already visited the hotel.

I chose my resort based on the fact the went once last year and loved it so much that we went right back 2 months later!

It's really hard to choose a hotel that not only fits what you like but also different age groups.  We found that the Grand Sunset Princess fit that perfect balance.

Despite the fact that have been twice, we are going to try to go this Fall just to sit down and meet the WC and have a real feel for the planning and maybe try to get it all done so that we can just focus on other things as we near the wedding date.

Good luck and all the best!

@@kaysav89 Hola!

There are definitely pros and cons to The Royal Hotel. I'm a resident here in Playa del Carmen and a wedding photographer - so I know the place well. I don't get kickbacks from the hotel so I'm free to say what I think! (It's like being a free-agent). Yay!

Royal Pros - Beautiful architecture, great food and perfect location in Playa del Carmen. (As you know!)

Royal Cons- Narrow, crowded beach.

I haven't had luck with coordinators there, maybe it's just my luck - but it seems like they switch a lot on people.

If you book there, make sure you get a lot of contact information from the coordinators and stay in touch with them as much as possible, I think that's your safest bet. Also, if the narrow beach bothers you, the Gran Porto Real next door has a little bit wider beach, and it's the same company as the Royal.

I hope that helps! (And of course if you need a photographer/videographer - I'd be happy to give you some info!)

Also - I wrote a blog on preparing for your destination wedding - You can find it here:

Hi, how is your wedding planning going? Did you decide on the Royal? I picked my packaged and put down the deposit for my wedding in March 2016.

It would be great to chat with another bride planning her wedding around the same time.

I got married at The Royal in November 2014. I fell in love with The Royal during a visit October 2013. Unfortunately, ownership/management changed hands between October 2013 and our wedding in November 2014. There are some bigger changes coming up. Because alot changed in a year, I'd be very worried about booking so far out for this resort. Their wedding packages alone are completely different.

Our wedding day was amazing. Only one hiccup (our flower colors were completely wrong. Did not match any of our wedding decor) I wanted to crawl in a hole and cry, but I had to accept nothing could be done to fix it. They were beautiful flowers though.

Make sure to get EVERYTHING in writing. Seriously. We were jerked around a little by broken promises.

Where we benefited really big-- We blocked our rooms in August 2013-- 20 rooms with a $2,000 deposit. We received a free room for 16 rooms booked. We also got about $1,800 dollars in spa credits through the "site inspection" program. All of our guests saved on their rooms because we blocked their rooms so far in advance.

Our travel agent was amazing. He answered all requests back within hours. He is one of the top sellers of The Royal resorts, so he has connections there to get answers. Let me know if you'd like his info.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
