Is it inappropriate to have a bridal shower and registry for a destination wedding? I had mentioned to my best friend about a bachelorette and bridal shower...she kind of looked at me like I had 5 eyeballs...

My girls are already talking about my bridal shower/bachelorette party. And, I have a registry. (Tho. I created the registry at someone's request, in advance of an engagement party).

I have looked at a lot if DW website, and quite a lot have registry information.

At the top of our registry page, we just say the usual: "your presence is present enough, but if you want to do something, blah blah..."

Tho we haven't gotten any gifts. ;)) (Which is totally fine!!)

I wasnt going to have a shower. My MIL and SIL planned one for me. They insisted I have one for all the guests that can't make it to our Destination Wedding. My shower is this sunday :)

My mom threw a bridal shower for me.  Though I didn't really want to create a registry (asking for gifts is a strange concept to me!), I did because my mom had asked me to.  I registered for mostly smaller gifts, things that we needed, but were mostly under $30.  We did have a few items that were a bit more expensive too.  The shower was a way for many guests to wish us well, as they weren't able to attend the wedding.  It was so nice to have everyone celebrate.

I am very glad that I registered.  I have been invited to a shower of a friend of mine that has not registered.  She and her fiance both have their own place, and I have no idea what they need, no idea what to get them.  I definitely see why registering is a good idea.

DW brides should have the opportunity to have a shower, for sure!

@@pddcmc - I think having a bridal shower is perfectly ok!!!!  My sister and mom are throwing me one.  Just because it's a destination wedding doesn't mean you shouldn't get to celebrate the same way someone having a local wedding would.

As for a registry, initially I wasn't going to do one but my mom and friends suggested I should to help people attending the shower & at my job (who will also be throwing a shower) know what to get.  There are also some relatives who won't be able to attend the wedding but have been asking my mom what to send as a gift.

I don't think it's inappropriate at all. A destination wedding is still a wedding, and I think people that are close with you would want to celebrate.

My best friend/MoH has already been asking me about what I want to do. I struggled to answer this too because I do feel guilty about having people spend so much money. But if it were reversed, I know I'd be very happy to attend a friend or family's member shower and bach, destination or not! So I'm going to just take a back seat and let my friends plan whatever they want.

We also decided to register because we figured that some of the people that aren't coming would want to get us a gift. We're doing our registry this Saturday at the Bay - I actually can't wait because it looks like a lot of fun to go around zapping everything :). We're also expecting to get money because it's common with our culture/social circle

I've made a Honeymoon Registry for my Disneyland honeymoon.

I'm going to have a bridal shower, and since I'm also doing a reception when we get back (it'll be a brunch for all my family members) I feel it's perfectly acceptable to register for gifts.

I think most wedding guests want the bride and groom to have a registry... it really helps with choosing a gift.  I didn't include the registry info in my actual wedding invite, but I did include the registry info with my at-home reception invitations.

I plan on having a bridal shower but I’m not sure what type of gifts to put on my registry. We all ready live together and we’re not buying a house anytime soon and we definitely don’t need any more junk at our place lol… So I’m thinking I may not register anywhere.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
