Newbie Question About Group Bookings

Our travel agent worked with Sunwing to get pricing and the 30 seats and 15 rooms blocked off for our wedding guests for 90 days. We just had to put our deposit of $200 each to hold the seats for everyone.

The $200 goes towards our seats

You can contact any travel agent for pricing, theres no cost to you to ask about group pricing.  They can provide you with free quotes before you sign anything.

Ugh, the Excellence was expensive!! I had to put down $5k to hold 20 rooms. The amount will get credited to my account, and we have until 3 months prior to the wedding to release rooms, but I thought that was super high.

???

Are you working with a TA? That's crazy! Mine is also the $200 total for our deposit, which then allows us to hold 48 rooms

I dunno what to do now! My at originally told me that the resort would honor the price if there's excess bookings of the held rooms but now she is saying the cost will be at the time of booking if it's not held now.. But my guests could probably only afford it if it's the price quoted now. What should I do?

Normally if you go over your block you have what's called an attrition rate (this is often 10% but check what yours is specifically) this protects you on either side without "penalty"... You can book 10% more rooms or have 10% less than expected without any changes in price etc.

Once you pass the attrition allowance, you need to renegotiate a second contract... Sometimes this can be cheaper the second time around (or offer even deeper credits/bonuses as a thank you), or higher (more likely as there will be less rooms available at the resort and closer to your actual date of travel)....

Best thing to do it guesstimate as close as possible how many rooms you truly need, and then have your guests put their small deposits down quickly to secure the rate- they will then have a long time to finish paying it off.

Is this how all group bookings work? I have no idea how many people would be coming...

My TA made it seem that most resorts would honor the rate for the bookings made in excess of the held rooms

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
