Wedding Dress Shopping By Yourself?

Recommended Posts

@@tygrrlily - Yeah I love this dress. I also have bigger hips and I was hoping to hide them somewhat or at least not emphasize them so much. I was hoping the little flower on that dress would camouflage the hips somehow. I am glad to hear that the dress doesn't look as flattering on tall and slim hahaha missus in the picture looks like a size -0. I am usually a size 10 in normal clothes. I have to try this dress on. Hopefully it flatters. Fingers crossed but if not I am sure to find something lace that would flatter.

Trying the attachment again.

I found ruching really flattering or some type of gathering on the skirt. My dress has BOTH haha so maybe that's why it helps. I'm not sure your budget, but check out Provonias, Enzoani (including Blue and Beautiful lines) and Martina Liana/ Essence  - they all had beautiful lace dresses! The one I got is lace as well (a Monique Lhuilier sample!)

Haha, this is what I'm saying, why do people do this??

The dress is beautiful, try it on for sure!

I actually have to say (and I haven't said this out loud to anyone yet) that I wish I hadn't gone shopping with my friend for the second round, I ended up bying a dress that wasn't my fav because she said the one I ended up buying looked better on me. Great input, but at the end of the day, I want to wear a dress that I love, not one that everyone else loves. I like my dress, it was a close second, but I still think about the other one... it makes me feel like I'm cheating on the dress I bought, lol.

Yes this happened to me too! I stuck w/ my gut fortunately and got the dress I couldn't stop thinking about. One of my friends and my sister kept pushing me toward another saying I looked better in it. My best friend reminded me though that at the end of the day, I had to choose the dress that made me feel best and most beautiful. I'm very glad i listened to her!

I went dressing shopping by myself as well. My mom did come down once to go with me but a few occasions I went myself. I loved it. It is sooo much easier to decide what you like when you don't have other people trying to sway you one way or the other. Also the sales ladies do this for a living... they will look at your body and they should instantly know what will look good on you. They aren't out to get you or make you buy anything you don't want. I think most bridal sales consultants do their job because they love it and honestly want you to love your dress!

@@kcole123 I also have bigger hips and I love love love the mermaid style on myself. I think they look better on people who actually have curves because it shows off your tiny waist! I went with a fit and flare and I love love love it! Best idea is to go out and try on some dresses because its so easy to say you love this dress or that dress online but they will look completely different on. HAd I seen my dress online beforehand I don't think I would have ever bothered to try it on but on me I loved it. I think it looks better on myself then the model on the website lol!

haha thanks @@csho. I am heading to Edmonton tomorrow to try on some dresses to see how it goes. I will try this one on first and if it doesn't flatter, then I will move on to something else.

I also had really great sales ladies! I had a few I wanted to try on but didn't really like any of them. The two dresses I ended up liking were ones I never would have chosen myself, and I almost refused to try on the one I really loved, but the sales woman asked me to humour her, lol!

Wow - that's gorgeous!

I went dress shopping alone for the first time, then took someone with me the second time. What a disaster! Long story but I should have just stuck it out on my own or taken someone different. She was too busy shopping for herself! So needless to say, I'm a fan of the first time or two going on your own. Then when you narrow it down, if you can find someone to go with you, then I would. Get a second opinion. You're right about the store clerks. They want a sale so they'll tell you whatever they think you want to hear.

I do have a suggestion, and I don't know how you feel about it. You could always put out a shout on this site and find a bride to be from this site that lives close to you and would be willing to be an "opinion" for you. At least you will know that it's someone in the same boat as you so that would want you to look your best and work with what you're thinking, and you would get an impartial, non-biased opinion. I'm sure in all the brides on this site you would find someone that would volunteer!

I think the pic you posted is beautiful and would be perfect for a beach wedding!

well girls another unsuccessful trip wedding dress shopping. I enjoyed shopping but didn't find anything that really looked nice on me or that wow'd me. I have an appointment with David's Bridal on May 10th. Hopefully I will have more luck. I do believe I will find something and I am still looking early which is good.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
