Resort Wedding Receptions

Recommended Posts

My fiance and i are looking to get married at a resort in mexico. We were really interested in having our wedding at the now jade resort in cancun, but we noticed the the reception dinner will only for up to 25 guests. Then they charge per person for additional guests over 25. Does anyone know of resorts in mexico that will allow up to 80 guests attend our reception without charging an arm and a leg?

Hello Icwitek,

Have a look at Hacienda Tres Rios and Playacar Palace.

This has been my issue with resorts.   They charge for extra guests but the guests are already staying there.  I have seen additonal person fees up to $80 per person.  It can get really expensive.  I am currently looking in Jamaica but I can't find any resorts that include packages for more than 20 persons.

Dreamweddings: thank you for your suggestions.

Futuremrsglover: I've looked into a bunch of other resorts and just like you it seems like I can only find resorts with 20 to 25 max. It's frustrating. Now we have to think about if we cut our guests list, continue to look for other resorts

Or pay extra :/

Crazy isn't it? You'd think these resorts would make it EASIER not harder on us brides when we are bringing them more guests (this more $$)! It's the extra costs everywhere that are stressful for sure!

Yes everyone seems to be a bit flabbergasted when I tell them our projected costs. I think there's this assumption that destination wedding means free. Resorts should definitely offer larger packages, and esp. since we're all staying at the resort and paying a ton of money for AI already. The biggest package I've seen is at the Paradisus. Their tailor made is actually for 42 people... but the package costs 12K (along w/ a lot of other stuff admittedly)

Are there any off resort places in the Cancun/Riviera area that are like the Jellyfish in Punta Cana?

I ran into the same problem. Unfortunately, we are going to have to suck it up and pay extra.. I have found that many resorts give you a monetary credit for x-amt of guests booked after 30 or so, if that makes sense

We went to Now Jade for a resort review and had such a bad experience (food issues, bugs in the rooms, rusted shower)... We also felt that the wedding packages were cookie cutter, not including enough and you paid an arm and a leg for guests over 25. We are now going with a Karisma Property... Take a look at Azul Sensatori or Azul Fives

@@lcwitek - I had the same issue, I think we are just going to "bite the bullet".... (sigh)..

PS I feel like "small" destination weddings are a thing of the past... since I have been on this site, I hardly see anyone mention a guest list less than 50... Sooooo, just thinking out loud...resorts increase their "up to 25 guests" packages

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
