New Resort - Royalton Riviera Cancun

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

My fiancé and I are getting married on July 22, 2016 at Royalton Riviera Cancun. We are in the home stretch as this is just over 2 months away. The way that the resort works through wedding planning is the four months prior to the wedding is when all decision making takes place. We are finding that a lot of the little touches like table runners, center pieces and flowers are pretty expensive through the hotel. We also found out that we can't mail anything to the resort like decorations for the wedding. So, that being said, we are trying to get some ideas for what we could pack with us to limit the cost. I would LOVE LOVE if some of the brides who have already wed here could send me some pictures from their wedding to give us inspiration! We are getting married at the Sky Terrace in Hideaway and then having the reception at the Nautica Beach Bar. My email is [email protected]

Thank you!! :)

Hey guys,

Just got back from RRC. We went for the bridal promotion and stayed Thursday- Monday. The resort is beautiful and massive but not overwhelming. We were told they were 97% full and yet it never felt overcrowded. We were upgraded to the Presidential Suite and it was great. The doubl shower is amazing!

So the trip could have went terribly wrong because all though we confirmed the trip, site tour and menu tasting in February, the wedding office had no idea of my confirmation or arrival. The Wedding Manager, Daniella, who had arranged everything stopped working a month prior and apparently did not not inform the rest of the onsite wedding team of our confirmation. We were able to do the site tour but they needed a confirmation for the tasting. Of course I was upset, that was the reason why we were there. We were trying to choose between the Family Style dinner or the Mexican Family style dinner. Thankfully, Maite was able to arrange a last minute tasting. While not all of our choices were prepared, we were able to try a good amount of the entrees, canapés, and deserts. We decided to go with the Famiky Style Dinner, the NY strip steak, mozzarella and tomatoe salad and fried bananas with cream were amazing! The red snapper ceviche and guava creme brûlée were also winners.

So the bridal preview was a success and I recommend any of you to take advantage and go if you can. Also, the free hydro therapy treatment was awesome. The spa is beautiful and we are thinking of gifting treatments to our bridal party.

Also, just a heads up, we were planning on having our ceremony in the chapel and reception on the Sky terrace but now are going to request a change. We are expecting about 50-70 guests and don't think the chapel would be good for more than 50 guests (even though max capacity is 60). Also the sky terrace seemed small for a reception of 70. I have pictures and will try to post them. So we are going to request to change the ceremony to the sky terrace with the reception in door in the ball room.

That didn't work. Sorry.

Hi Laureen!

Congrats on your upcoming wedding!! I'm getting married there on May 9th, 2017.

I just looked quickly for you... If you decided to have your reception at the beach bar, a $300 fee applies if there's no food. And there's a $12 charge per person for the open bar, without food service.

You also do have to pay for any upgraded chairs if you chose to have any, as well as whether or not you wanted to upgrade to an actual dance floor (these are insanely expensive here, starting at $1000) I'm choosing to use the floor of the beach bar, and not have an actual "dance floor"... Any decor or linen upgrades would of course also be more.

Let me know if I can help with any other questions :) I've gotten quite a bit of information from my planner that I've been working with. Booked my wedding through Luxe Destination Weddings! They've been great.

Where are you flying out of?

I've been stalking instagram like crazy for pictures of setups at the beach bar. If anyone has any of these please pass them on!!

Hello :)

Thanks so much for the info.. I know the dance floor etc are crazy prices, I also could not believe the outside vendor fee of $850 just to bring in my own photographer so still haven't made a decision about that. I am just unaware that if you have the semi private dinner at buffet restaurant do you serve your self or will a waiter serve me and my guests?

I booked through Thomson holidays and flying from Dublin in Ireland for two weeks. I am the same I have joined a few closed groups on facebook and they are so helpful.

Were are you holding your ceremony?

Hi Laureen,

We have booked our wedding through Thomson aswell. I'd be really interested to hear what your experience is/was like. When did you book your wedding? Also how long did it take to have your requested date confirmed??

What date are you getting married? I wonder if we are out there the same time.

Thanks,

Lauren xxx

Hi,

We fly out to the Royalton on 17th May 2017, with our wedding on the 23rd (just awaiting confirmation of our preferred date). Sam, I have got a pricelist from the Royalton with all the extras including the Spa pricelist for make up etc. I can send it over to you if you haven't already got it.

I'm excited, seems like I've picked the right venue.

Hi Lauren,

I'm so sorry I didn't realised you had messaged me back!

If you could send me the price lists you have that would be great!! My email is [email protected]

I'm so excited! Nearly a year to go!!

Have you received your confirmation yet? I am still waiting for mine! Are you from the uk? If so have you booked through Thomsons?

Thank you xx

So I sent my WC a list of a few questions I had in mind. One being that I know the sound system is included in the wedding package for the ceremony but what about the reception... I figured they'd charge additional for this but holey moley I was not expecting the pricing she sent over! Below is her response.

  • Does our package include a sound system for the reception or only the ceremony? If not, how much is it for the reception? It includes the sound system for the ceremony! The sound system for the reception is $441 USD for 2 hours and $315 USD for additional hours(tax included)

Now is it me or is that pricing RIDICULOUS!? For a speaker and microphone?? Future hubs wants a DJ but for the fairly small number of people we are expecting (about 20 max) I don't think it's worth it. I figured we would just have the Wedding DJ app and a sound system and call it a night. Now I'm honestly considering bringing my own little speaker and having everyone speak up during speeches LOL. Anyone else do that?

I also tried to get a little idea of pricing for decor but she said that the prices could change so we'll have to just wait for 2017 and the 'planning phase' to get all those quotes. This stresses me out because I want to budget accordingly. I've heard the decor vendor charge like $150 per string light. I might just wait for the end of summer and buy a bunch of boxes on clearance at Target and haul them down.

Also the photography outside vendor fee..... UGH still working on that $850 charge. I've booked Kape Photography. If any of you ladies love photojournalism photography you will adore her work and she has been a DREAM to work with. She said that usually it can be negotiated down and here were the options Karla sent over....

The past weddings, we've avoided the vendor fee by paying a 2 night stay for me at the resort. They usually ask for 3 nights for me in order to avoid this fee, but we normally negotiate for it to be only 1 or 2 nights and that always works good. The other option is not tell them anything and for me to book a 1 night stay separately  and just show up for the wedding with my camera as a guest who takes pictures, this shouldn't be a problem. Remember they will always want to "punish" you for getting someone from outside, but there are ways to go around it. The other option is paying a daypass or adding us in the list of your guests and just paying for us to be at the wedding (and we can stay outside the resort).  I can help you arrange all of this!

But I'm just too chicken to not tell Royalton and have her as a guest! I don't want to get down there and then have them hit me with an $850 charge because they saw her taking pics during the ceremony and reception. What do you guys think??

Hi Ashley,

I have now been waiting nearly 7 weeks since I actually sent my wedding contract back to Thomson. Just to let you know it took them 2 weeks to process the contracts, so I may have another 3-4 weeks to go until I can actually chase them up. When are you hoping to get married?

You get more for the reception sound system then you do for the wedding. I think the wedding is just a speaker and a microphone, where with the reception you get big speakers and lights and stuff like that. I think I am planning on hiring the sound system for my reception.

How much do you reckon it is for two nights stay in the hotel?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
