I Broke The Cardinal Rule...

Recommended Posts

Where did you go?

I only need a hem and bustle too :)

I plan to shop around for alterations!

It's tough when you find more than one you love!!! The lovely lace gown was beautiful but it was sooooo far over budget! Lol

I love what I got and am so excited to wear it.

I actually went to David's Bridal - I wasn't expecting to buy that day - I just thought they have so many dresses I could get an idea of what I wanted.

But then I tried my dress on and that was it for me - everything I wanted.  And I found out that they had discontinued that design three days prior, so I couldn't order it if I tried.  That was the only one in that size in the store.  All those factors (and the fact I LOVE the dress) and it was a done deal.

I'm also shopping around for alterations.  David's quoted me $170 for a hem - ridiculous because there is a train its only the front that needs it, and the lace might need a lift (its ruched so its like an extra stich/seam to lift it).  They also won't take out the crinoline, because its altering the design, which they won't do.

The bustle is easy if you aren't going fancy - my mum is just going to do a button and loop for mine (makes sense if you see the back of it).

Someone has to be able to hem it for cheaper than $170!

I got mine at David's Bridal too.

They quoted $137 for the hem, and then $57 at minimum for the bustle.

My coworker went to 'Sew Nice' in SW Calgary and got a bustle, hem, repair, and sash changed out for $120, so I plan to start there. It's quite far from my house as I live near the Airport, but for that savings why not!!

I am just scared to go somewhere that noone I know has went, just in case, you know?? Although I have no back up that David's Bridal will do a great job either ha!

My dress is from David's Bridal also! I have no idea how much my alterations will be just yet. I still have a while to go before I need to alter! Seems pricey though :/ I would be worried about the same thing though - going somewhere else having them mess it up. If I go anywhere else for alterations I need to know they have a good rep. I feel that at least with David's Bridal, they alter a whoooole lot of dresses so I have a little more faith in their work.

Dear Lissa, oh no!!! I think a lot of us women fall pray to beautiful, shiny, gorgeous gowns, so you're not the only one! I too did the same thing. I had travelled to NYC for my appointment at Kleinfeld's (showroom of TLC's Say Yes To The Dress) and even though my budget was wayyyy lower than the vast majority of their dresses (budget = $1K = no chance) I tried on quite a few dresses that were up to $3K and they were beaaaaaaaautifullllllllllllllllll. There was one I fell in love with that cost $2,500 but my fiancee was the voice of reason and said I would look beautiful in anything and that I would surely find another dress that I would love at our budget.

At the same time, I have a girlfriend who selected a cheaper gown than the one she truly loved and she regrets it to this day. I say, you only get married once (at least, you're supposed to), and you want to feel like the most beautiful woman in the world, so I say if you can stretch the budget a bit, take away a little from here, a little from there, go for it!

Good luck in your decision!

:D

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
