I Broke The Cardinal Rule...

Recommended Posts

Unfortunately, the store I bought my dress from carries a line they get directly from China, and this dress was one of those. I don't know who they got it from - there is nothing identifying it on the tag. I think that's why I was able to get such a beautiful, delicate lace for an awesome price. The store is Blissful Bridal in Calgary. Maybe they would be able to tell you?

I'm going there next Tuesday! Question- did they let you take pictures in the dresses?

@@MissJen3 I started my shopping looking for an organza dress, and then discovered that it looked like pyjamas on me lol. Lace was not on my list of desired fabrics. If you live in a larger city, there may be smaller shops that don't just carry designer gowns and maybe you can get your lace for a nice price :)

@@kmk2016 They do not, and they are very adamant about that. I also found that they undid my dress as soon as the change room door opened so I couldn't sneak pics of myself in the dress. I did however, take a few of them hanging up after I had taken them off. Dressing rooms are really tiny :)

@@kmk2016 and @@MissJen3 - how did dress shopping go?

It went well. I'm confident in ordering my dresses online now that I have confirmed that the styles I wanted looked good on my figure. Prices were really good at the shop I went to! I would consider buying one directly from the store if it weren't for my wanting to tweak the design just a bit!

@@kmk2016 and @MissJen3 - how did dress shopping go?

It went really well! I actually stumbled upon my dress by pure accident. I am about 14 months out from my wedding so I had decided to wait a few months before buying but when I tried mine on I had to have it. Not only was it what I had envisioned, but the shop was having a fantastic sale so I couldn't say no.

An added bonus is that the only alterations I should need is a hem and to tighten the lace straps.

I am very excited about my dress. I feel like I could ramble on and on about it.

The only store in Calgary I found that would let you take pics BEFORE buying was David's Bridal.

My consultant actually encouraged it so I have photos in all dresses I tried on (including the one I bought).

And yes, I got outside my budget too - I was hoping to get everything in for under $700 (with alterations) and wound up spending $850 before taxes on the dress alone.  BUT aside from some hemming the dress needs nothing. My mum is going to do a simple bustle for me for the train, and take out the crinoline (if I decide to) at the bottom - I don't like poof.

But splurging got me an amazing dress with beading and lace and everything I could imagine.  Its a lace up back and I have large hips and ribs so I am confident that even with working out it will fit me the day of.

Now to find a great push up corset....

Where did you go?

I only need a hem and bustle too :)

I plan to shop around for alterations!

It's tough when you find more than one you love!!! The lovely lace gown was beautiful but it was sooooo far over budget! Lol

I love what I got and am so excited to wear it.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
