Hi Everyone!

I'm semi-new to this forum (cant say I haven't creeped for the past few months) and finally I have decided to go ahead and put a request in with our travel agent for July 2016 with a wedding date of July 20th at Azul Fives! I noticed we have a lot of brides in this forum in Toronto which is where I'm from as well :). I don't have facebook so I haven't been able to read the posts on the FB forum, but so far this thread has helped a lot. When I originally started looking into destination weddings I was overwhelmed, but no matter how many quotes we got back from different resorts I just didn't see anything that I found as gorgeous as the sky deck at Azul Fives or anything that was close to a budget that seemed reasonable for our guests. I did look into Sensatori, but I wanted something close to Playa Del Carmen and Azul Beach was more expensive than I had hoped. Azul Fives just seems to fit exactly what I am looking for. Hopefully everything comes together that way. I've been reading reviews endlessly and a lot of them are hit or miss, there really is no in between. Thankfully I don't think we have too much of a picky group (or atleast lets hope not).

I haven't been assigned a wedding coordinator yet, we just finally agreed on a quote and are now in the process of requesting the date for the wedding which I was informed was available. I know I would like to have the sky deck I just haven't decided if I want it for the ceremony or the reception (or both). I like the idea of the privacy, but the fees are a bit insane especially since we would like to extend the reception. Has anyone had any luck with negotiating the fees? I think we will be having at least 60 guests from both Toronto and New York. Has anyone visited the resort yet?

I think this forum is going to be highly addictive lol

@@Laurena1229 welcome to the forum! and you are right; if you aren't addicted yet, you will be.

we might be twins - summer(ish) weddings for both of us, Azul Fives, no facebook, Toronto area brides, sky deck, extending the reception time, approximately 60 guests, etc.

i haven't negotiated anything yet so i can't give you any tips but i look forward to hearing from anyone that has. i agree - the prices are insane but the venue is just SO beautiful; hard to say no.

@@TinkerSofi is getting married VERY soon at AF and will likely provide us with TONS more information post her nuptials.

@@snswedding2016 is attending the BDR (brides dress rehearsal) at AF as well. have you looked into attending? we want to so badly but it doesn't look like it will work out as my FI just started a new job and i just got promoted - needless to say, work is about to get very hectic for both us.

happy planning! :)

Welcome to the forums and congrats on choosing a resort!

I'll be there in about 3 weeks. yay! I can't wait, and I'll let you guys know how it goes

You basically chose AF for the same reasons we did. The beauty of the sky deck, the price, and the fact that it was close to Playa. I agree that the reviews are hit and miss, but I've been trying not to read them lately. Some of them are complete BS and all I'd like to say to those people is don't expect royalty luxury if you're not willing or can't pay for it. I always take them with a grain of salt and hope for the best during my vacation. I guess all places have an off week here and there, I just hope it isn't the week i'm there :)

From my experience, the Lomas vendors (the Miami coordinators) are not the greatest to negotiate with. The only thing we've been able to get away with was getting the ceremony for free. My TA negotiated this because we upgraded our ceremony and reception to the sky deck, plus we're getting one of the memorable moments package. Other than that, everything I've tried hasn't worked. There's a few things that I want to negotiate when I get there, so I'll let you know how that goes.

If you don't want to upgrade your reception to the sky deck, the garden is beautiful and it doesn't cost more. In case you don't want to do the beach, that's a great option ;)

You'll hear more from me soon!

Yes I will be at the BDR at the end of Sept. If there are any other questions after @@TinkerSofi gets back from her wedding, feel free to let me know what they are and I will do my best to get answers from Azul Fives.

In other news I just found out that they took out most of the grass in the garden area and put in stone/stamped concrete. Now I was initially nervous about this since my reception is in the garden and I was planning on having string lights. I called Karisma immediately got my WC on the phone and she was able to send me photos right away! :) I know some brides are not thrilled that a lot of the greenery is gone but it actually works out much better for me. I think the stone looks really pretty and now I can have the dance floor closer to the gazebo instead of by the pool (I'm not renting a dance floor). This also means the dance floor will be covered by my string lighting as well for the dancing! The string lights are still possible but they are now at fixed points in the garden instead of just being able to place the lighting poles where you want them. I'm confirming with my WC about where exactly you can hang the lights from. I'm assuming it is by the trees only. It also looks like there is extra lighting in the strips of greenery around the garden area.

Oh and a bonus - ladies can wear heels without worrying about sinking into the grass! ;)

The other side of the gazebo still has grass.

Also if anyone needs the dimensions of the garden chairs here they are: (I asked because I'm thinking of doing my own chair sashes)

Thanks for those pictures! I had no idea they were putting in stone! I'm getting married in October at the new beach front location and my reception is in the garden! Is that a permanent white vinyl dance floor in the pictures?

does anyone know if the garden chair that @@snswedding2016 posted above is the exact same chairs that we will have on the sky deck? i did a search of this thread and i believe someone referred to the sky deck chairs as the garden chairs.

thanks in advance! and thanks to @@snswedding2016 for posting the dimensions :) almost time to pick @@yycbride2016 's brain for chair sash inspiration ;)

I'm officially a June 2016 bride! I booked the Sky deck for 5:30 pm but I'm thinking I should move it up to 5pm. I really hate that the always and forever package isn't free any more. I don't know how I feel about paying $1800 for sky deck and $950 for the wedding package...

SN: I'm waiting on approval from the FB group, I wanna see more photos

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
