Quick question, how do you get these free events?

Your TA sometimes has special deals, your tour operator (canada) or the resort depending on the month.... On the Karisma website you will see the free events offered and the criteria that are required. There are sometimes bonus ones not mentioned but those are generally through T/A as a GI certified rep.

Yeah, I think the only reason they waived it was because I have 110 guests, not including us. They said that's a pretty big group for a wedding, plus I'm paying the $8/person fee for the cocktail party anyway. We're using the Sky Deck for the post-ceremony cocktail party only. It's too small for our reception so we're doing that in the pool/garden area. It doesn't hurt to ask them if they'll waive it. I basically told them I think it's crap that they wouldn't waive it since it's such a big group. I think they got tired of me complaining and pestering them. :)

I'm late to responding to this thread, but @, how did you get the unlimited private events?  I'm anticipating 150-200 guests.  I checked the Karisma website for specials and it looks like for wedding ceremonies on a Saturday, the unlimited private events special does not apply.

We're having the wedding at the sky deck, the cocktail hour on the terrace and Sky Lounge, and the reception at the grand garden area.  Our welcome reception will be on the beach and our farewell brunch will be at Flavours Restaurant.  I'm guessing since we're having our wedding ceremony on the sky deck that I won't be able to get the $1,700 fee waived.

Even though we are getting married on a Saturday and technically, they aren't supposed to allow the free unlimited events for Saturday ceremonies, but I told them that since I'm having such a large group, I thought it was only fair. Plus, I only wanted the welcome cocktail party and the rehearsal dinner as free events. So the coordinator talked to her supervisor and got it waived. As for the sky deck fee, I would try and ask if they'll waive the $1700 since you do have such a large group and you're still going to pay the $15/person fee. Doesn't hurt to ask. Maybe they can at least lower the fee? They told me my group was too big to do  our cocktail hour at the sky terrace. Mean people. We're doing the welcome reception on the beach, the rehearsal dinner at Oriola, the ceremony on the beach, the cocktail party on the sky deck and the reception in the garden/pool area.

Question for you - how are you getting all of your welcome bag stuff down to Mexico since you have so many people? I'm stressing on how to do that!

Thanks @! I'll try asking. I've been asking my WC so many questions about everything but not yet negotiating the big fees. I commend you on your great work. Did you negotiate by email or phone?

As for the welcome bags, haven't figured this out yet. I'm guessing either we'll need to bring big suitcases and check them into the plane, or have family help bring stuff. For snacks, I may just get them there. I heard there's a Walmart in Cancun?

I negotiated by email. But my travel agent did too because she works with the resort a lot.

For snacks, I was just going to go to the buffet and grab stuff and throw it in my tote bag. After all, food is included, right? :) If I need to, I can go in town. I don't know if there is a walmart. Maybe?

Jeez, flowers are so expensive. Why is Lomas charging so much for flowers? I was gonna pick the pure glamour design for reception. Now i found out it costs $250/table + $150/vase on each table. There are 3 vases, each with about a dozen roses in it. How on earth does dozen roses cost $150. :S

Any of you ladies have any other suggestions for flowers and bridal bouquet? any of you going with outside vendors?

Hello:

I've just found this forum! and I think is very useful!!, we are having our wedding reception in February 2015, at azul fives. We have chosen to do a private event, so I was wondering if anyone is doing this? I've recently noticed that in the Private event banquet kit they seem to have changed the list of brands in the international open bar, I'm a bit concerned about this as it does't look like having so many top shelf brands anymore. My wedding coordinator said not to worry about it that they should give me what was published before when I paid the deposit, however nothing regarding food/drinks is specified in my contract. Any thoughts on this?

I know. We went with the vintage elegance package. I still think $250 is way too much for what they give you but I just don't want to deal with carrying everything over there. We're making our own centerpieces. We're putting a lantern, a little silver candle holder with 3 fake flowers and some of those glass gems scattered around.

What's your e-mail? I can send you the list that our WC sent us for liquor. I was worried because my parents are big wine drinkers and they seemed to offer everything under the sun except for wine (i thought it was extra). It turns out they do offer some that is already included in the price :)

Another question for everyone, if you do a private reception by the pool, do you still pay the surcharge per person like you do at the terrace?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
