Wedding Location Advice!?!?- Playa Del Carmen

Hello All,

I am newly engaged and my fiance and I have decided to do a destination wedding in Riviera Maya! I have started looking at all-inclusive locations that would be affordable for guests (about $1200/4 night stay) but also that gives guests options to walk of the resort if they would like... that is why we thought the Playa Del Carmen area would be perfect. I am having a very challenging and frustrating time finding a location that gives this as an option, is affordable, and can accommodate an outdoor wedding for about 40 people. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE give any suggestions you may have. I would greatly appreciate it!!

~Thanks~

Have you looked at the Gran Porto Real??? I have a wedding booked there for Jan 2015... It's a smaller resort, but their prices are in your price range... One of my guests just paid 1200 for a 4 night stay in a standard room...  I used a travel agent and she booked through delta vacations which also gave them a $200 credit for booking--Plus we get $50.00 back for every person who books....

The good thing about this is that you and your fiancee can book across the street at their sister resort The Royal and you two will have full access to the Gran Porto... We are doing that just so that we have an escape from our guests for after the wedding.

Hope this was helpful!

Hello Nikki,

Congrats on you engagement and in choosing playa del carmen.  It really is beautiful spot.  my advice have a look at Playa car palace and Riu Palace Riviera Maya.   Or you could contact the travel agent we have on the forum.

I'll second both of these suggestions! I did the webinar on here a couple of weeks ago on Playacar Palace and it's really gorgeous! My first choice is for Gran Porto Real, and I'm still holding out for that. The photos on the website are beautiful, and the packages look pretty decent. I would say either one of those would work for what you're looking for. There is also the option of resorts that are really close and maybe only a 5 minute taxi ride into PDC. Something else to think about!

Definitely go through the resort reviews on the site and see what other brides have had to say. Oh and definitely work with a travel agent! That will make everything SO much easier! If you're in the US, Wright Travel from this site are destination wedding specialists so would be great to give you the information you need.

Good luck and happy planning!!

Hi! This is perfect! I am newly engaged as well ( in Playa del Carmen in Feb. at the Gran Porto Real)! We loved this resort and plan to come back to the area to be married in March 2015 so this is all good information for me. We saw a wedding at both the Gran Porto and the Royal but have decided it is not the location for us. While the weddings were BEAUTIFUL, the beaches here are very busy so if you would like a private beach ceremony this may not be the place. Other than that, the food was great, steps from downtown and wonderful staff, etc etc.   I am also looking for places near downtown so we could go out with friends at night but with a less busy beach so our wedding can be more private... so far I am seeing 1. Riu and 2. Playacar? Any other recommendations?

Thanks!!! Let me knwo if you have any questions re: Gran Porto

Am I correct in assuming that the beach at Riu or Playacar are less busy? If not, we would book at the Royal or GP in a heartbeat! Those photos are stunning and really helpful...! If we decide to book here we will be in touch MTM!

That's awesome @@Canada2015Bride!! I'm so glad to finally speak with someone who has been to that resort recently!!! I wish I could give you some recommendations, but this will be my first time in Playa... I attended a destination wedding 2 years ago..... But it was further south at the Barcelo Palace... Which is AMAZING! it's so gorgeous there and there were no people on the beach where my friend had her ceremony... The only thing is that there is no shopping area like I've heard about Playa... They did have a smaller shopping area within the resort, but from what I've heard it's nothing like the 5th ave area in Playa....

We are still deciding on which beach area to have our ceremony... Do you know which is a better option--North or Central beach??? I read that the North beach is closer to the Royal and has a nicer beach area, but IDK if that is truly the case...

Here is a link for Playacar brides, I believe it's older but it may be something you'd want to check out!!

Here's what this bride says....

Hello Ladies!

When I first started this adventure I had my heart set on Playacar! It is such an amazing resort and so quite compared to the hustle and bustle of the the bigger resorts. I proceeded to place a down payment of $460, soon after I realized it was out of my guests budget. I was heart broken to think we would have to get married elsewhere but it was also important for my loved ones to be present.

Long story short I ended up changing our wedding to another resort and lost my deposit at Playacar=(

So if there is a bride out there that fell in love with Playacar, like I did, I would love to donate my deposit to you.

I spoke to Playacar and it is transferable but only for a new wedding book.

Please let me know if anyone is interested or pass this along to anyone that might want it

You may wish to take her up on this offer if you pick this resort!!!

Hi. Thanks for the info on GPR. I just wondered about the gazebo? I don't want a beach ceremony (sand in your shoes and all that stuff) but I'm in love with the gazebo! Is it relatively private? I'm not too worried if there are a couple of people watching, but from the resort photos, it looks like the gazebo is away from the "action" just a little. Is that right?

Thanks again!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
