Hi all, my date is set for Dreams Riviera Cancun and I just got my contract a couple days ago. I see that prices I was given in writing 2-3 weeks ago have increased by $150-300 in my contract. Does anyone have experience negotiating? I'm not confrontational, even via email haha, and I don't want to piss off the wedding department before I even start planning! But I do think they should honor their written promise.

Anyone have advice on wording, experiences with negotiating at DRC or any other resort, or things I should ensure are in the contract? Past brides-how much did you negotiate? Did you do it yourself or have an event planner from home do the dirty work? :-)

@nattiegams325 We have had brides go through similar experiences in the past with their resorts. I think especially if you were given a quote prior to this in writing in an email you should feel confident to go ahead and bring it up with them noting it as a "mistake" and you would like it corrected :)

I really don't feel as if you should be too nervous or worried about the wording. Try bringing it up with them and then go from there.

Hope you get it sorted out & if you have any questions feel free to drop us a line!

Don't be shy or nervous about asking for what you want! Especially if they gave you another quote and you have it in writing, it's only right they honor that. I'm no good at confrontation and negotiating either, but I find through email is always much easier! Just say you were quoted X previously and you would appreciate that price be honored. If they still give you a hassle.......BE FIRM!! Don't be nervous, you are their client and the bride! :)

I need to be brutally honest with you - this was a QUOTE - not a contract.  Quotes are subject to change at any time.  The prices reflects in them are only locked in when a contract is signed and deposit is made.

This is very common within the industry.  You can ask whatever you wish and maybe they will work with you.  But the fact is, it was several weeks ago that you received the first numbers and they are always subject to change.  Most likely this information was relayed in within the text of the quote.

Thank you for your input, but no where in the text did it say anything about prices being subject to change. Also at the top of the budget planner was "February 2015." The words "quote" was never used as this was the official budget planner I was sent which they send all new brides. I am hoping they will honor this. We'll see!

Hello nattiegams325,

I also say feel free to send them back both quotes and let them explain to you, why the sudden change of pricing.  As long as it wasnt stated anywhere in the first quote then they should adjust it.

its very important to communicate with your chosen resort, always in order for them to answer all question that are unclear to you.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
