Need Help: Planning A Wedding For Nov. 2014!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone-

I got engaged in October 2013. I have never been much of a planner, but I am trying to plan a wedding in playa del carmen this November (first two weeks). I'm having trouble finding a place for the wedding. While I like the idea of resorts for the guests, it just seems like the wedding won't feel as private. But at the same time, both of our families are people that have never really traveled (or have much money), so perhaps this would just make it easier for them to come. Also, I'm on a budget, we just graduated college this May and we're paying for it ourselves.  If it helps, we don't need an open bar (just regular drinks) and no DJ or dance floor (probably just a Mariachi) due to religious reasons. I'd welcome any suggestions. Thanks!!   :)

We were married at the Now Sapphire in November 2013, and I think it might fit some of your criteria.  They have a free wedding package, and some that are fairly reasonably priced.  You could opt for the free package and then add on as necessary - if you do not require an open bar this should help lessen your costs somewhat.  You could also have a dinner at one of the restaurants assuming your party is not too big.

We were married on the beach directly in front of the Terrace, which is at the most north part of the resort and separated from the main beach area quite well.  There is not a resort right next door either, so it felt quite private.  There will always be a few on-lookers, and people walking the beach, but for the most part people were very respectful.  I thought our wedding felt very intimate.  Our reception followed on the terrace, where there were no other guests.  It was perfect.  If I could do it all over again I would choose the Now Sapphire and repeat everything.  I will try and post a few pics to give you an idea, but google is useful too (I ended up making the decision of the NS through looking at a website of a wedding photographer from the area).

My husbands family are not seasoned travelers and I really feel that an all inclusive was the best option for them as it really cut down on things to worry about.  They had a great time, and so did everyone else!

Congrats and welcome to the site!

I totally agree on the all inclusive, particularly for unseasoned travellers. It encompasses everything - flight, accommodation, drinks, meals. It just makes things much easier and more straightforward and gives your guests much less to worry about. And it takes a load off your mind too in that you won't have to worry about them.

There are so many resorts in Mexico, and in the Playa del Carmen area that would work for what you're looking for. I don't know if you're in the US or Canada, but it would be I think helpful for you to contact the site owners - Wright Travel and tell them what you're looking for and I know they would be able to help you out both in the way of budget and in what you're looking for. It might also be helpful to check out the resort reviews and see what other brides have had to say about their experiences.

Have fun, good luck and happy planning!!

I agree as well, a resort is where you are going to want to be for a wedding if you aren't concerned about drinks or music, as your guests can walk to one of the bars or you can even have your meal at an a la carte, where drinks and food are included.

When I was looking into resort, Now Jade & Now Sapphire as said above had private areas for receptions as well as the ceremony. The barcelo is pretty nice as well, not as private but is a big resort (4 in 1) so more choices. There are tons of threads on here on various resorts, have a look around :)

Happy planning as well! :)

Hi! I was looking to get married on November 8, but had a really hard time finding a hotel/resort with availability for a wedding that date, so I moved my date to November 1. I really suggest either looking at November 1 or November 15. We're getting married at the Azul Fives hotel and they seem to be pretty reasonable for rates and food. I'm not sure how many people you're planning on having, but the price definitely increases by quite a bit with more people. There are a ton of hotels in the Playa/Riviera Maya area. If you're not having any children, then you'll have a lot of options. I'd suggest the Excellence Riviera Maya. My friend got married there last summer and the rates were really good. Good luck!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
