My fiancé and I are getting married at the Grand Palladium next year. I just had a questions for those of you who had a legal ceremony. What is the ceremony like? Is it similar to a traditional wedding ceremony with an exchange of vows and rings? I'd just like an idea of what to expect. TIA :)

I was married in Jamaica but did investigate Mexico.

 

A legal ceremony in Mexico is done in Spanish with a translator. The only ceremony directly in English is symbolic. Yes - it is still vows and exchange of rings. A lot of Mexicans are very devout catholics and very much steeped in tradition. There are some absolutely beautiful churches in Mexico. You need to have a blood test done and also need to be in the country extra days prior (I believe it's 4 days prior) in order to complete all the requirements. All of your documentation needs to be translated into Spanish and certified prior to your wedding. I'm not sure what the individual resort requirements are in terms of how far in advance you need to send your documents.

 

Your resort wedding coordinator can help you with all of the details, but from what I was told when i was investigating it, the ceremony is generally similar to a traditional wedding ceremony with the catholic church influence.

 

That was a few years ago. Maybe someone that has been through it recently can chime in with any extra details.

@@acw271011 Thanks for your response. We did know about the legal requirements and the fact that our resort only offers the ceremony in Spanish, so that's not a surprise. I just noticed that no one has really mentioned what the ceremony was really like, so I was wondering. I'm very glad to hear that it's going to resemble what I expect a wedding to be.

You also can get to incorporate any of your own vows if you wish.  the civil ceremony party its usually quick.  What some of our past brides have done was to have a symbolic ceremony and right before the their first kiss then the judge would come out with the papers for them to sign and seal it with the kiss.

Congrats!

I just returned from Mexico on Tuesday and had a legal wedding on Saturday!

 

OUr judge spoke English, so the entire ceremony was in English.  We had to sign the marriage certificate, as did our witnesses, and then we had to do a thump print (which was a surprise to me). It was pretty brief, but your typical ceremony, exchange of vows & rings & a kiss! I know you can add your own vows etc.

I watched a legal ceremony in Mexico last summer and I thought it was beautiful. I wish I could offer more details, but I remember thinking the vows were lovely. Also, you need to be in the country for 3 business days before the wedding, but your TA will probably advise 4 just in case of a travel delay.

@@mark82 - from what I've read on other posts, personal vows are an option. My fiancée and I would be way too shy to have to come up with something ourselves, and that's why I'm glad there is still a traditional exchange of vows and rings. I was so worried it would only be a two minute ceremony since we wouldn't be doing that!

 

Just a thought for those of you that have already had your legal wedding in the Mayan Riviera - did you have to leave the resort to do any paperwork or were you able to do it all through your wedding co-ordinator at the hotel?

      Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010.       Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations.
