Barcelo Maya Photographer? Ocean Photo Studio Package

Recommended Posts

Our wedding is spring break 2015, and the wedding coordinator at the Barcelo informed me that we are not allowed to use an outside photographer.  If we do, we will be charged $500.  The resort photographer is Ocean Photo studio http://www.oceanphotostudio.com/en/ and their packages are PRICEY!  I've attached their package in PDF format.  Holy moly....

Has anybody worked with the Ocean Photo Studio?

Has anybody got a less expensive package through them?

Does anybody have any photographer suggestions that would be more affordable?

At this point, we are looking at paying the way for our photographer friend to attend Mexico, then they would take all of our photos as our guest and we wouldn't have to pay the $500 charge.  Originally, I'd budgeted like $800 for photos, because I only want digital copies of photos from us getting ready, the ceremony and cocktail hour/reception and then a dvd video of the ceremony.  I don't want to deal with the shipping of prints as well as photo books etc.  I'd rather take a CD home with the photos, then develop them at home.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Hello,

I am in the same boat with this resort. I have emailed them. No answer and their website doesn't seem to work. Doesn't seem too reliable. is it possible to get that pdf from you? it won't let me open it on here.

I was told resort follow a boring or outdated rule of getting shoot, some of them where administrative personnel or had other work than a photographer, make sure your photographer has enough experience as a main photographer if you go for them.

If you want a different vision of a real artist, look for an artist, I do my photography and I edit them, I know how will they look like at the end.

Happy planning!!!

UPDATE:

We have decided to go with Ocean Studio, and have agreed on 5hrs photo, and an edited video dvd of the ceremony.  I am taking a RAW cd home of photos (no edits) and am having a friend edit the photos at home so I don't have to wait months for my photos to arrive by mail, I save a ton of money, AND I can have a say in the edits.  The resort still has a strict "no outsider" policy, and a $500 fee if you bring an outsider photographer into the resort.

I believe Moon Palace uses Ocean as well. The outside Vendor fee for Palace is $800. I have not received a list of Palace approved vendors yet, however, I have seen some prices before of preferred  photographers and I feel that hiring an outside photographer, with the vendor fee, still lets me save money and gives me more for the money.. as in more time. I also do not want printed pictures, I would rather them on a desk or drive and I will have them edited and printed myself. I don't mind if they are edited, but I don't want them printed.

that 500UD OVF is shitty! damn! give money away!

photography begins in the camera and ends there, Digital is not about how it looks but how much information you have in the file to later get what who took it wanted, I have done a huge research to change my prices again, hope you give yourself a big change to have things that matter for ever a place in your life

@@riskyteacher - we are getting married there May 2015 and we hired Octavio Montes (he posted above).  www.octaviomontes.com

We actually were just at the resort in Sept and met with him and Ocean Beach and decided on Octavio. We found him to understand us much more as a couple and his packages are much more reasonable (even if you have to pay the outside vendor fee). He also offers 10% off which helps!

I had the same issue. Found a outsider photographer, paid the fee , got some amazing quality photography and still saved a lot of money. Now I compare the pics I got with those which was included in the hotel package and I am  so relived that I've made the right choice.

I would prefer to pay the fee if the photograper is worth it. NataliaKersaw Could you give me some info about your experience?

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
