When To Contact A Travel Agent?

Recommended Posts

I am just looking for an idea of when people started to contact a travel agent for their destination wedding. We are looking to get married in February 2016, so I am probably way early but I'd like to know what others have done.

Thanks!

Welcome to BDW and congrats on planning a DW!

You didn't say if you're in the US or Canada, but it's never too early to contact a travel agent, even if it's just to touch base with one and see what kind of relationship you develop with them. I would say you're a little early yet for 2016. If you're in the US, I would highly recommend getting in touch with the site owners, Wright Travel. They are destination wedding specialists and have tons of information that they can help you with. And they would also be able to help you figure out when to actually start working with them to get plans put together. If you're in Canada, things work just a little differently. Pricing for packages is only available about a year in advance. I was just advised that for October 2015 for me, pricing won't even be available until late this summer, and even then flight departure days aren't guaranteed.

If you know your location, that's a good first step. You could spend some time on this site reading through the different comments and tips and ideas. Browse through the resort and vendor reviews and see what other brides have had to say. There is so much information here sometimes it takes a little while to process it, but it's a lot of fun to read through.

Hope that helps a little. Good luck and happy planning!!

I would definitely say to start talking to travel agents, we had to speak with a few before we found someone that we actually clicked with!

And the departure dates do change, we sent out our save the dates in December 2013, after confirming dates of October 19-26, but then changed to October 18-25 when the flight schedule came out in early January. It actually worked out better for us since we now leave on a Saturday and get home Saturday which allows people one day to relax before having to go back to work!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
